Only the first 25 pages so it seems unfair to leave a review with so little context. From what I just read though, I'm worried that Tomi Adeyemi is rushing again. The character un-development in the second book is carrying over to this third and final installment, which has me worried. Children of Blood and Bone was a wonder, but Virtue and Vengeance undid it all for me, so I've been anxious about this third book. Her chapter starts and ends are pretty heavy handed with the severity of the situation that's been repeated often throughout the first two books. I'm also wondering if in an attempt to be different from other story structures, this overdoes it too, i.e. the in media res model for these beginning chapters was almost too fast paced and feels like we're cramming a lot in before concluding the series. Not sure yet, but these first 25 pages didn't reassure me I hate to say.

After waiting what feels like ages for this book to come out, I can tell you that this sample did not disappoint. We find ourselves (ok Ze’lie) locked away and desperately needing to escape the skulls. It’s a quick sample that gives you hope & fear while leaving you wondering how will she make this happen AND save the world! Can’t wait!

This review is for an ARC of the first five chapters. I cannot wait for the rest of this book to come out! This is the third book in Adeyemi’s Legacy of Orisha series, and so far it is just as fantastic as the first two! The story picks up right after the events that ended the second book, and Zelie and the captured maji are prisoners on a ship with a clan called the Skulls, who have unknown motivations, but they are torturing the maji and suppressing their magic.

This excerpt is so well written, I eagerly look forward to the full book release!

Based off the 5 chapter earc sampler I received via NetGalley and MacMillian, all opinions are my own.

There is not much to say for such a short amount of the book itself.

We start off running - plenty to get you excited and back into the story. Thus far it's done a good job of reminding you of previous books event and getting you caught up.

I'm sorry to say I just cant get excited about the story - I dont find the Inan/Zelie to be palatable.

An excellent start to the finale of the series!! The stage has been set for the primary conflict and I can’t wait to read the rest in just a few weeks.

Reading this sample has had me sitting in the edge of my seat. It’s certainly picking up where the last book had left off and I was intrigued by the plot, I need to know; what happens next!

CAA starts where CVV left off. Zélie and the rest of the maji have been captured by a group called the skulls. The Skulls has everyone chained up and separated by gender; girls are on one level of the boat while boys are on a different level. All of the maji were shaved bald and stripped of their powers. It’s up to Zélie to find a way to free everyone from the skulls’ imprisonment.

I've been looking forward to adding 'Children of Anguish and Anarchy' to my collection for a while now, so I was thrilled to discover there was a sample available for preview. The first chapter immediately grabbed my attention, and I was pleased with the rest of the sampler. From what I've read so far, I can't wait to dive deeper into the full story.

This sampler generates more excitement for the epic events that are bound to happen in this next installment of the Legacy of Orïsha series. Mostly a review of what happened in the last book, but also begins some of the action that starts to take place as the characters figure out how to escape.

I have read both Children of Blood and Bone and Children of Virtue and Vengeance by Tomi Adeyemi. I really enjoyed the first book. I was excited to see that there is a third book to this series. I really like Tomi Adeyemi's writing. The way she writes is like a dream. The words she chooses just flow to beautifully on the page. The story continues with Zelie, she finds herself trapped on a ship. She feels powerless and drained. She is still on the journey to saving her people and bringing magic back into the world. As the story continues you can see that she has grown more wise and stronger than she ever was. I liked how she got to meet with Inan again as if it was a dream. She feels doubt and confusion. But, there is determination and she will stop at nothing to save her people. I like how the setting is set at sea and on a ship. I hope the story is more adventurous, dangerous, and action packed. I can't wait to see how this story ends.

I am so excited to read the rest of the book after reading these first few chapters! I read the first two books as they were published and was a huge fan at the time. However, I’ve found I’ve forgotten a lot of plot points and details leading up to this book in the years that have passed since book 2 came out. I’m hoping I’ll remember more as I read on!

I am hooked but simultaneously extremely conflicted with what I have been shown. On one end, I am so glad this series is back. I read the first two books as they were being published, and I have always loved the creativity of the magic system and worldbuilding. More recently, I let my younger cousin borrow my copies so she could enjoy them. This is a strong comeback, however these five chapters felt very rushed and short, and I did have some trouble reconnecting all the plot points that led to this since it has been so long since I last read them. Overall, though, I would say I enjoyed reading these chapters, and even though Legacy of Orisha is not one of my favorite fantasy series, every book so far has been solid, and never have I not recommended them whenever I meet someone I know will enjoy it as much as I did.

This glimpse into a new entry in Tomi Adeyemi’s world offers much to come and builds on already rich imagining. I love that books like this exist, and I hope to see many more of them for the young readers I work with.

After reading the small snippet that I was given, I am mad that I didn’t get the whole book to read. The first chapter was amazing. It actually grabbed my attention better than the second book in this series.

It gets right to the action and is heart breaking at the same time. Great start and I hope it continues like this through out the book. We need a movie!

This chapter preview is fantastic. So far, The writing is great and picks up right where the readers were left in the second book in the series! I cannot wait until June 25 to read the entire book! I will update this post once I have read the entire book.
