4.5 stars! This was a good quick read. It had all the twists and turns that I was looking for. I didn't want to put the book down once I got started.
I would recommend this book to anyone that wants the occasional surprise!

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this book. This is my honest and unsolicited review.

I found this to be a quick entertaining read.

We follow Jane and Joe, a married couple. Jane's mother, Helen, is unwell with her health deteriorating quickly so it was suggested that Jane and her husband move in with her to help her at this time.

Helens life is a blur of alcohol and medication but she is adamant she hears noises every night and see figures in amongst the trees outside her house.

Jane's brother, Dan, (a complete idiot) believes their mothers health is deteriorating enough for her to be put in a home but Jane seems to think he has an ulterior motive.

Jane doesn't know what to believe but it becomes apparent that Helens worries cannot be completely dismissed....

It's hard to go into too much detail here as things start happening from the start and then throughout so I don't want to give any spoilers but I did find this an entertaining read.

We have alternate pov chapters from Jane and Joe which also alternate with past and present which I really enjoy and I found it easy to follow. I found the characters to be annoying unfortunately especially the brother.

The ending fell flat for me, I was expecting a big reveal but there were no surprises really but I still enjoyed the book and would recommend. I will definitely read more books from this author.

Easy read thriller. Took a little to get into it, you would think from the way it starts you would just be sucked into the book, but it was a slower start.

Didn't really have the 'wow' or page turning grab like the thrillers I typically read, however, it was still a decent story. Lies, secrets, deception, family dysfunction, etc.

Thank you NetGalley and Inkubator Books Publishing for my DRC in exchange for my honest review.

I received this book as an earc from Netgalley.

I liked this book. Jane and her husband Joe move in with Jane's mom to take care of her and see if she will need more care than just visiting often. I was not a fan of Joe even before I found out he was a cheater in the beginning. The twist wasn't really a twist for me, I pretty much figured it out pretty early on.

Overall, even though I rated it 3 stars, I still really liked the book. It was definitely a quick read!

I was only able to read a few chapters of this book before losing access to it; however it started out amazingly. I will be purchasing this because I simply want to know what happens. I apologize for not being able to give substantial feedback on this title, but truly can't wait to read it.

I was very excited to read this book based on the description and cover. As I started to read the book, I struggled with connecting with the characters. I felt like the husband wasn't too bright and he was a little naive. I also felt like the wife should have trusted her instincts a little more. She noticed some things about her husband, but quickly dismissed them. The brother was an odd character and the interactions he had with others were bizarre. I don't think I ever really understood why he was acting the way he did, other than wanting an inheritance. I just felt like the book fell flat and I didn't really ever get closure about some actions of the characters.

The Inheritance revolves around the murder of a man in his own front yard and the subsequent unfolding of his family's secrets. His children return years later to care for their mother, forever changed by the tragedy. As secrets bubble to the surface, we're left to wonder just how far people will go for money.

This book is a slow burner. The timeline of can be confusing, especially due to inconsistencies between characters Jane and Joe. The ending is predictable, which may disappoint readers looking for a shocking twist.

Despite its shortcomings, The Inheritance offers psychological suspense without being overly dark or graphic. It's recommended for readers seeking a mild thriller.

Thank you to Kevin Lynch for the copy of The Inheritance on NetGalley. I was lucky enough to scoop this up as a Read Now, and it’s out now for you to grab it too!

When we first meet Jane, she witnesses a tragedy…. The cold blood murder of her father. With no suspects and a dead end, she escapes the town and tries to stay away from this monstrosity of a home. But as her mother’s health fails, she finds herself back to the one place she never wanted to come back to.

Her and her husband Joe run her floral shop. Joe was such an interesting character…. I couldn’t tell for the first third of the book if I even liked him. He was a wild card in many ways for me, and his actions …. Well he is beating to his own drum it seemed.

Jane’s mom has been suffering since the death of her husband, and she is somewhat losing her marbles. She hears noises at night, suffers deeply from anxiety, and is taking medication to function. As Jane and Joe become her primary caretakers, her brother Dan has the freedom to continue living his life.

At some point or another, I’m not sure if I liked any of the characters 😂. They all had flaws, and you felt different emotions for each of them at various points in the book.

Dan, her brother, was just insufferable. The author did a great job at making you strongly dislike him, that’s for sure! And Joe, her husband? He was just an idiot!

Overall there were moments that kept me on the edge of my seat and some parts that seemed “too obvious.” I would have liked to see some more character depth and growth throughout the novel, while weaving in other story lines to confuse the reader

Wow! I loved this soooo much. I can’t even put into words right now how much I really liked this book and if I go into details I may spoil and I won’t. Definitely recommend for my thriller fiends

*I did get this ARC from NetGalley*

This is the story of Jane. Her mother is sick and her and her husband, Joe, move into the house with her. This is the house where Jane found her father dead in the driveway - a murder that remains unsolved. She keeps reliving the day and remembering and finding clues that she did not have before. She must figure out how to balance taking care of her alcoholic mother, her lying brother, her lying husband, and the thoughts of her dead father.

Am I crazy or did nothing really happen during this book? Like I don't think I was spooked once. I think the killer was made super obvious and I actually thought that there would be some insane twist that would prove me wrong - and I guess there kind of was, but I was still underwhelmed. I also did not like the whole cheating vibe that was happening. I get that it got the story moving, but man oh man did I not like reading it.

Even though I'm giving this one star, I do think that there were some good things about this book. I liked that we kept switching point of views. Towards the end, I wish we got a Dan point of view or a Lara point of view. I also liked that we went back in time and we saw how little Jane found the clues and all the ways her childhood affected her adult self.

The Inheritance tells the story of Jane, a woman who returns to her family home to care for her mother. Her husband Joe moves in with her to help and they attempt to split the caregiving load. Soon after moving in, Joe becomes disenchanted with his new role as caretaker and delivery driver for his wife’s business. He begins a couple of new ventures and starts behaving strangely. Jane’s brother Dan lives nearby but he begins pressuring Jane to move their mother out to a care facility almost immediately.

Jane’s father was killed in the driveway when she was a teenager and the case was never solved. It happened in the middle of the night under mysterious circumstances and Jane has never been able to find satisfactory answers. Strange occurrences keep happening, Dan refuses to answer questions regarding that night, and her mother keeps hearing people or noises in the trees outside their house.

It took me a while to really get invested in the story. The book was more of a slow burn and I would call it more of a mystery than a thriller. The characters were mostly unlikeable, greedy, and shifty. The plot was good. I feel like there could have been more accomplished with this story, especially the backstory with the mother. I rated it three out of five stars.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

The book took some time to get into as it seemed to lack a wow factor. I felt like I had the book figured out and I was right. It includes lies, secrets, and a dysfunctional family. There are some plot twists that I enjoyed.

With suspenseful twists and a race against time, this book will keep readers turning the pages eagerly as Jane races to uncover the shocking truth and right the wrongs of the past. A compelling read that earns four stars for its captivating storyline and skillful delivery of suspense and intrigue.

thanks for the ARC of this book, #NetGalley!

This book felt flat to me. I would not consider it a thriller and there was never a point where I felt on edge. The ending fell short and I would have preferred twists throughout the book since it fell flat.

The actual text on my kindle had spots where the spacing between the words were also off. There’s also some words that are for sure Irish based English that didn’t make sense to me, someone in the US reading it which was fine but I did want to call that out.

The concept wasn’t bad, I do love reading about a messy family with unhinged characters but I just felt like there was nothing making me turn the page. Just wished for more.

Conflicted and still questioning the death of her father when she was young, Jane and her husband Joe move in with her mother to help with her declining health. Strange occurrences keep dredging up the past everyone is tense and on edge. In a desperate bid to discover the truth behind her dad’s murder and the unusual behavior of those around her, Jane finds out more than she bargained for.

This was an incredibly quick read and while the basic plot was intriguing, I found the style to be a little less mysterious than I was hoping for. The character development was brief and left me struggling to empathize with the main characters.

While this book was not for me, it had good elements of an old, creaky, mysterious house, family secrets, and the foundation for a suspenseful narrative!

Much thanks and appreciation to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an advance copy to read! This was my genuine, honest review.

Absorbing psychological thriller flipping between the perspectives of Joe and Jane a married couple forced to move in with her elderly mother which tests their relationship and stirs up past trauma. It’s a fast paced read as the lives of the couple are slowly unravelled. Jane’s troubled brother Daniel creates tension between the couple, flashbacks to the past reveal a cold case and Joe makes a series of clumsy decisions that nicely build up to a dramatic ending. Really enjoyed the setting and storyline and especially the twist, highly recommend.

The book started with a bang and piqued my interest right away. I think the story and idea has a ton of potential, but I’d probably make it longer or at least more descriptive so I could root for or be mad at a character. but I then found myself a bit bored throughout. None of the twists at the end surprised me (just how they’d end up there), and unfortunately I didn’t feel like the characters were well developed for my liking. They were messy and unhealthy(which I don’t mind), but the reasons for choices or even decisions made felt vague/not well explained. Because the characters felt underdeveloped, I also didn’t really care about what happened to them or feel engaged. I rated it 3.75 stars! Still a good star count and would recommend.

A family, psychological and atmospheric thriller. Characters of dubious morality, in an inherited house and many secrets, set the tone for this story.
A quick read, somewhat predictable, well-developed characters.
