I really wanted to love this book. I even had read the reviews saying it was more of a history of the early church than a book about the current church, but that wasn't the issue for me. I had an issue with the amount of statements Jean-Pierre Isbouts made that felt truly off-base, blatantly incorrect, and without regard to the inerrancy of the bible. Just a few examples from really early on: that all gospels were written more than a generation after Jesus died, that none of the gospels were written by eye-witnesses, and that Matthew and Luke's Christmas story contradict each other (also the census debate in Luke that has been debunked numerous times now). These errors made it difficult to have any desire to continue reading the book, as the credibility of the author was already destroyed in my head.
