She is fed up. Everyone seems to underestimate her but continue to wait for her to be the hero.

My heart hurts with some chapters. It was almost as if I could feel their pain on the pages.

The imagery used placed me in the middle of the story.

I don’t want more. I need more.

Special thanks to #NetGalley, #StarwaterPress and #BriarBoleyn for this ARC.

4.5 stars!
Oh boy. I'm absolutely loving this series. Which is based off of King Arthur and the Knights of the round table. Book 3 and can I just say, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Haha. Morgan had her moments of annoyance for me in this book but over all she is a force to be reckoned with. There is so much action and adventure happening in these books that they fly by! Can't wait to read the final book!

This third book in the series is just as thrilling as the first ones. We uncover new elements about our heroine's mysterious past, but not only that; new revelations reveal the extent of the danger facing the Knights of the Round Table.

I appreciated the fast-paced nature of the book; it immerses you in the story and keeps you pleasantly surprised with numerous unexpected twists and turns. Reading the epilogue, I also stumbled upon an interesting and little-known fact about the legend of King Arthur. I can't wait to dive into the last book of the series!

A big thank you to NetGalley, Starwater Press, and Briar Boleyn for graciously providing an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Title: Empress of Fae
Author: Briar Boleyn
Genre: Fantasy romance
Media: ebook
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

—————————

Favorite quote: “That’s where you’re mistaken, Fenyx. I’m no princess. You’re addressing the wife of Prince Kairos Draven Venator and the Empress of the Court of Umbral Flames and the empire of Myntra.”
Sum of this book in 5 words or less: N/A

—————————

Themes: retelling, family, murder, assault

—————————

Thoughts:

Short summary - Morgan is in Camelot trying to painstakingly put together the pieces of her old life. Draven watches her disappear through a portal and takes off after her in a fleet of ships to help her fight the battle she’s been desperate to have.

Draven and Nightclaw losing their connections to Morgan was absolutely devastating when it happened. Arthur finally perishing was great if we didn’t know that he regretted everything in the end. I absolutely loved the badassness of all of the females in this book - it really makes everything so much better!

When you think a series couldn't get more epic then this book is here to proofe you wrong!
Since I was a fan of the first two books it shouldn't be a surprise that I was loving this one just as much. I like that you didn't loose tension over the books and that it still felt like a lot was going on. Sometimes you ask yourself where this is going but this gives you a clear direction, which is great!
The tropes are as good as they can be in a king arthur retelling: Fae Mates, Multi-POV, Spice and Found Family

Morgan has returned home to take care of business and protect the ones she loves. Book 3 did not disappoint. This books continues to provide background to Morgan’s birth parents and siblings. The pages take you through a magical adventure full of suspense that will leave you reading late into the night. Many thanks to NetGalley for providing a copy to read. I am excited for the fourth book to see what happens to Morgan and friends on their continued adventure.

Empress of Fae is the third book in the Blood of a fae series and since the last book ended on a cliffhanger, I was very keen to read this book. I guess my expectations for this book were too high.. there were characters in this book/ series I wish I had read and known more about. Unfortunately that won’t be possible anymore and so their stories remain untold and open.
My favourite Character so far remains the bearkin Hawl.
After reading this book I know for certain that Morgan’s Character is not going to improve in the sense of she’s not likely to be a smart, witty, sometimes cunning and decisive female lead. I want her to be that powerful fMC soo badly😩. Her sister and Guinevere were so much more interesting… Very disappointing. I was hoping to find out more about her mother and her past in her dreams..

But as always I have lots of hope for Morgan in the next and last book.

Thank you Netgalley for copies of this entire series.

Continuing seamlessly from the heart-stopping cliffhanger of Court of Claws, this latest installment catapults readers into an even more intense roller coaster of events.
Morgan's return to Camelot only confirms her worst fears: her unstable brother's grip on power has plunged the kingdom into chaos. Determined to thwart his destructive ambitions, Morgan finds herself facing unimaginable challenges as she navigates the tumultuous landscape of her fractured homeland.
Amidst the turmoil, Morgan's character undergoes further development, showcasing her unwavering resolve and willingness to make personal sacrifices for the greater good. The narrative delves deeper into her journey of growth, exploring themes of redemption and reconciliation as she seeks to mend fractured relationships from past installments. Her bond with her mate deepens, radiating with a profound sense of devotion that resonates with readers.
Unlike its predecessor, this book offers a reprieve from cliffhangers, closing on a note of anticipation for the future rather than leaving readers dangling on the edge.
I am starting the final book immediately, eager to witness the culmination of Morgan's journey and the resolution of the intricate plot threads woven throughout the series. It's been an exhilarating ride thus far, and I do not doubt that the conclusion will be spectacular.

This is such an engaging series. I love that the main characters are able to communicate even when they are far apart and was glad when they finally reunited. The world building is expansive and inviting. Horrific things occur yet there's enough genuine warmth that readers still have hope.

The story continues with Morgan returning to Camelot. King Arthur further deteriorates and war consumes Camelot. Morgan joins the rebel faction and encounters new enemies. I enjoy this different telling of the story b

There is a lot to unpack with this book and I do feel like there was a few good arcs with in it. There is a dew scenes where the TW do come in to play so please take that in mind.
However this like the other books are well written and leave you waiting to see what the next book will bring.

"I'd rather be a villian by your side than play the hero for anyone else."

Empress of Fae is the third and penultimate book in the "Book of a Fae" series . (You'll need to read Queen of roses and Court of Claws before you start this .)

The book picks up right from the previous book's Cliffhanger and it starts with a BANG !!!
The story line continues to amaze me.

Even though they are miles apart, Briar Boleyn finds an AMAZING way for Morgan and Draven to be "together" (which I won't be telling how coz it'll be a spoiler 😋) and it's very sweet how they work their issues and then bow chika bow bow 😏😏🥵🔥.
The romance is super sweet and spicy.

We get to meet a lot of characters we had been introduced in Queen of Roses and we fall in love with them too .

Arthur is back with more horrible shit and we have a new villain Fenyx who we hate even more than Florian!!!!

There's a lot of politics and war going on , with harsh and horrible conditions for the people of Camelot.. (And you really need to go through the Content triggers and warnings before you start the book ) .

I really miss the Exmoors though, I get why they are not much included in the story and really hope I get to see more of them in the next book!!

All in all a lovely story, which keeps you on ur toes, makes u fall in love with people , while hating some of the characters with all your heart and obviously with the most devastating heartbreaks!!!!

I loved how the characters were summarised in the beginning of the book so that we don't loose track of them 😻

Thank you so much Netgalley and Briar Boleyn for this amazing read in exchange for an honest review 💜💜

If you have any triggers, please check them in the book before proceeding.

Briar has a way of keeping you guessing. There are some fantasy books that I love because it reminds me of some place comfortable and familiar. There are hints of that here in an Arthur and Morgan retelling— but this story is so much more than that. The third in the series and just when you think you know what will happen next, Briar Boleyn takes you down another avenue in the maze. Also can we talk about how swoon worthy Draven is? How everyone is not obsessed with quoting this book is beyond me.

Here I’ll try and convince you to read this with just one spoiler free piece:

“A flaming projectile flew over the walls and into the city, exploding with a deafening roar. The blaring of war horns carried over the river’s surface. A siege.”

My heart was pounding in my chest through this entire journey.

It was sheer willpower that made me finish this book. Many times I wanted to DNF. The characters lack development still. Plot pacing is very slow, and way too much fluff.

This series just keeps getting better and better. Steeped in Arthurian legend with a Fae twist. So many things to uncover, a mystery to unravel and find out who these people truly are.
