This was an interesting book. Split by continent, the history and nature of the wild horses found in each region are depicted and described. Some amazing photographs in here as always with Amber books. This would make a great resource book for artists as well as a lovely gift for anyone interested in horses. Some of the photos felt rather epetitive in style hence four stars instead of five.

This book will take you on a wild journey, whether you are interested in horses or not. Their history and places of habitation are part of our history also. The photographs make it all the more worthwhile. You can almost feel their breath and their warmth. Along with the photographs is a short history of each breed. It is amazing how they have endured over time. I thank NetGalley and Amber Books Lid. for the advance look.

Beautiful horse pictures. What more does anyone really want? Except maybe more horse pictures … This book collects pictures from a variety of photographers — including Getty Images and Shuttertstock — featuring the world’s wild horses. From Brumbies to Yakutian to Mustangs, with each picture having a small comment about the particular breed, its history, and its current population.

A nice picture book for horse lovers.

Wild Horses by Tom Jackson is absolutely stunning and a must-read for all horse-lovers and indeed animal lovers. Any time you get a book from Amber Books Ltd, you can be assured of incredible photography in conjunction with fascinating subject matter

When we think of horses, we usually think of domesticated breeds, used for recreation, sports and work. But there are still herds of wild horses around the world, including Utah, Mongolia, even France.

The book not only looks at the different wild breeds, but their migration, evolution and place in the ecology of their surrroundings. Also their relationships with people in the same regions and their place in history. A stunning book to look at and a fascinating book to read

Thank you to Netgalley, Amber Books Ltd | Amber Books , the author Marlee Bush and the author Tom Jackson for this beautiful ARC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.

Wild Horses by Tom Jackson is a captivating exploration into the untamed world of wild and feral horses. Jackson’s book is a comprehensive catalogue that spans six continents, offering readers a glimpse into the diverse populations of these majestic creatures.

The book is meticulously organized by continent, allowing readers to embark on a global journey from the comfort of their home. Each section is rich with stunning photographs that bring the beauty of these animals to life. The images range from breathtaking landscapes to intimate portraits of horses in their natural habitats, showcasing the variety and splendor of wild horses worldwide.

Jackson’s writing is both informative and evocative, blending detailed captions with narrative passages that delve into the origins, habitat, and behavior of these noble animals. Readers will learn about the Przewalski’s horse with its 20,000-year lineage, the resilient Dartmoor ponies of rural Devon, the elegant Turkmene from the Turkoman desert, and the remarkable Namib Desert horse, which has adapted to survive in harsh conditions without water for extended periods.

While the book is a visual treat, it also serves as a light educational resource. The genealogy and ancestry of wild horses are discussed, providing insights into their evolution and the impact of human activities on their populations. However, some may find the author’s approach to sensitive topics like horse culling and round-ups a bit detached. A more passionate advocacy for these creatures could have added a compelling layer to the narrative.

Overall, Wild Horses is not just a coffee table book; it’s a tribute to the enduring spirit of horses. It’s a must-read for equine enthusiasts and nature lovers alike, offering a rare look at the lives of horses beyond human confines. Whether you’re drawn to the subject or simply appreciate stunning photography and engaging storytelling, this book is sure to enchant and educate. It’s a beautiful reminder of the wildness that still exists in our world, and the importance of preserving it.

Description:
Wild Horses catalogues different populations of wild and feral horses across six continents, providing beautiful photos and some information about these herds.

Liked:
Some of the photos are gorgeous, and there were wild horse populations I’d never heard of before. Information on the genealogy and ancestry of wild horses was interesting.

Disliked:
Not all of the photos seemed to be of equal quality; whilst some were beautiful, others were less so. The author takes a decidedly detached approach to information on horse culling and wild horse round-ups - I wish this book had taken the opportunity to advocate more for the incredible creatures the photos portray.

Would recommend - will make a gorgeous and lightly informative coffee table book.

This girl LOVES horses, and was so excited I got an advanced copy of Tom Jackson’s new book coming out called Wild Horses. She checked out a book at her school library to “study” them, and spent two hours Friday writing down a list. She celebrates her summer birthday this week at school and of course did horse theme party bags for her friends. So it was really fun to read this new book with her. She loves to learn about the different types of horses, and all the little details about them. Tom Jackson did a wonderful job with the descriptions, the detail, and the illustrations were beautiful. This would be a really pretty coffee table book. Thank you @netgalley @tomjackson for the advance copy! It comes out June 13. #netgalley
