Description
A Warm Celebration of Family Diversity
In Aria's tiny village, there are only nine houses. But each of them contains an entire universe. From Samir, whose grandparents never stop dancing, to Judith, whose father identifies as transgender, to Lily, who never knew her birth mother and who lives with her two adoring fathers. Aria introduces us to a wide range of family characteristics. How about your family—what makes it special?
Through Aria's eyes, children discover that the family structure is not unique and that the people who make it up can be very different from each other, as long as they care for one another. A true ode to love, tolerance, and open-mindedness, this story is perfect for starting a dialogue with young children on a variety of issues, such as blended families, LGBTQ+ parents, adoption, and many others.

Wow. This book has truly taken my breath away, I am so stunned by how beautiful it is.
I hope this book finds its way onto every bookshelf in every classroom and library in the world. There were tears in my eyes the entire way through reading this because it is just so important.
Some of the simplest sentences in here touched my heart and it absolutely bursts with the thought of young children reading this or having it read to them; seeing themselves within the pages or learning about families that look differently to them.
This is what the world needs. Acceptance and understanding and celebration of what makes us different but also what brings us together.
The art style is beyond stunning, the writing and the story are truly so lovely. I already want to read it again!
Thank you so much to Net Galley and Chouette Publishing, I feel so lucky to have read an arc of this beautiful book.
YES! YES! YES! This book was so good.
We get introduced to all of the different "universes" in the neighborhood. Every family in the neighborhood has a unique aspect to it. I think this is a great introduction to children about different family dynamics. Every family is different and to let children know that at a young age is so important. I think this book does a very tactful job at that. I think it will bring about great conversations between families and children.
AHHHHHHH TAKE ALL MY MONEY.
Is it just me or picture books are just nailing it lately?!
Here's another perfect little bundle of love and diversity in all its shapes and shades.
Aria lives in a tiny village with only nine houses. In each one of them lives a family and they're all different from one another.
Aria has two beautiful happy moms and next door lives a dad with four lovely children and their house always has snacks! There's a dad who used to be a girl when he was young, before he chose to be his true self; there's a couple who is happy just as it is and sometimes babysits for a foster family and so much more!
The illustrations are warm and loving and full of life and I'd expect nothing less from Ariane Caldin. The text is lovely and so inclusive and welcoming.
My kid will hold this book in their hands and I'll read it to them over and over again <3
Review to come late August/closer to the release date on blog/goodreads/etc..
I received this book from Netgalley/publisher in exchange of an honest review.
I recently finished a book in Dutch named Binnen bij de buren (My neighbours in my building/Visiting my neighbours, unsure which translation works best, haha) which had a little girl living on the 7th floor tell us about her neighbours, which I absolutely loved. So when I saw this book on Netgalley featuring the same-ish premise just now with a town? I just had to have it. Plus, that cover was just too pretty.
And this book just made me cry so much. Because it is inclusive, it is beautiful, it is wonderful. It features families of all forms. Not just m/f with kids but also f/f and kids, or a single dad. There is even a dad who is trans and how that was written was just beautifully done. And then that older couple on the hill? I loved that one, because that is me and my husband in many many years. At least I hope so. We don't want any kids (mostly for health reasons). Just want to be together. And so we see that each house in this little town has a special family living there. Everyone has their beautiful happy lives, and I am just so happy that kids these days get to read books like this. That kids get to see that there is not one family, but that there are countless ways of being a family. These are the books we need more of. That need to be showed prominently.
The art was just superdupermegaepically wonderful. Really, that style was just beautiful. I love the colours used (mostly yellow/orange/brownish with splashes of blue/green and bits of others). I am definitely going to see if this illustrator has more works~
All in all, I would HIGHLY recommend this book to everyone. Read it!
All the Families in My Town is absolutely adorable. The art is gorgeous and will capture any young child's attention. I love the way that the authors showcased so many different families. Having the different families and homes shown from a perspective of a child makes it so much more accessible. The representations were really well done and thoughtful. I think it is a great way to start conversations about different families without tokenizing or othering marginalized communities.
I loved the activity in the back and the conversation starters to help younger kids understand what other families look like. Overall, just an adorable read and perfect for any elementary classroom teacher. It could really help students understand and accept peers who come from families that look different than theirs.
All the Families in My Town contained diverse families, from a child with two moms and another with a transgender man as a father. Others have blended families, and others don't have children. There was great representation of races and disabilities. The illustrations were flowy and lovely.
Absolutely loved this book and it's inclusivity of many different families and explain at a child's level how they are different cannot wait to buy this book and add to little free libraries.
All the Families in My Town is a beautiful book. Full of inclusivity and heart. The illustrations are absolutely wonderful.
This is a book about a girl who lives in a town with just 9 houses. Each family is different, but she loves each house for different reasons. It is a great story of including different types of families. She lives with two moms, another house has a single dad, there a is girl living with a foster family since her birth mother can’t take care of her now, and a couple who decided they love children, but did not want to have any of their own. I think this sends an important message to both children and adults that there are just different types of people in the world and each makes the choice that is best for them. This town exudes happiness and joy. That is really what family and community are about.
The illustrations by Ariane Caldin are absolutely beautiful. They bring out a sense of safety, community, fun, and family. These pictures enhance the book all the more.
Thank you, NetGalley, Ophélie Celier, Thomas Piet and Crackboom! Books for an ARC of this book.
A beautiful book about the importance of accepting all types of family and the diversity in the world where we live.
An absolutely beautiful book that teaches children about all families being unique in their own way. An absolutely wonderful way to show all the different types of families that exist and the only thing that is important is the love they have for one another.
This is a beautiful look into diverse families throughout a town. This is a great book for everyone.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC!
This is a gorgeous little book promoting diversity within different family units and encouraging discussions about family make-up with children. The bright, colourful pictures are engaging and it covers all sorts of different families including disability, LGBTQ, fostering and adoption. Definitely one I could see us using in school to discuss diversity with the children.
A really sweet children’s book. The illustrations were perfection. Loved the stories of each family. Would recommend without doubt
“Mom says that adopting is like falling in love.”
This book almost had me in tears. What an utterly beautiful, stunning work of art. I wish I’d had this book as a child.
The writers and illustrator of this work have been perfectly paired, and balance one another so well. The colour palette and loose, flowing style used throughout is gorgeous, and emphasises the warmth of the entire narrative. I didn’t expect to be so affected by this work, and I cannot recommend the book enough. I’ll be running to my nearest bookshop in September to see a copy in person - I can only imagine how beautiful it will be!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Chouette Publishing for this absolute privilege. I’m blown away.
This book totally just made me cry. “All the Families in My Town” is so wholesome and beautifully diverse!!! In the simplest way ever!!! I absolutely love how each family was explained in a way that children will be able to understand while also providing an opportunity for more of a discussion on the various dynamics. This kind of equality and diversity is so beautiful to see. I also loved the illustrations and art style and thought that the colour pallet was really nice!!
Overall such a precious and important book.
4.75 stars rounded up to 5 stars
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher (Chouhette Publishing and CrackBoom! Books) for providing an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
I read this with my daughter and it was such a lovely and refreshing experience! I hope they will use this in schools to explain different kinds of families and that it's not just the typical nuclear family.
The illustrations were beautiful and captivated us. The representation was great.
In this book, it showed families with two moms, foster children and adopted children, single dad, a transgender man, and a father using a wheelchair. There was also a couple who did not have children because they didn't want to and that was okay of course.
My daughter and I were just confused, still are, about the family with different moms and dads and the one living in the forest. I hope they'll add a guide at the end because some of it could be confusing even to adults like me.
Overall, this was such a lovely book, and we highly recommend it!
Oops I accidentally cried reading a kids book 😅
All the Families in My Town is a beautiful introduction to differences. The illustrations are simply magnificent and the text is so simple yet full of warmth. It is a brilliant conversation starter, a good first step into the topic for children as soon as they're ols enough to be meeting people outside of their own family.
A short book about acceptance and family and love.
I will be buying the original French version.
Highly recommend!
Support this book for its inclusion and representation of many LGBTQIA+ identities, disability, and BIPOC.
Thank you NetGalley and Chouette Publishing for the opportunity to read an Advanced Copy.
All the Families in my town is a beautiful diverse story about all the People who live in Arias Little hometown. She tells us who lives there how thei family dynamic is and what she loves about thei house. This was such a lovely story about the different kind of families. The art style is very yellow focused but stills beautifully illustrates the different families. I would absolutely recommend this book. It is also a great way to teach children that there are many ways people can be a family.
Thank you to NetGalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
This beautiful picture book tells the story of nine different families who live in a small town and are all very unique. From LGBTQ+ family members, to single parent and blended families to fostering and adopting and even family members with disabilities. No matter what the make up of a child's family is, I'm pretty confident they can connect with at least one of the characters in this book. The artwork and illustrations are beautiful! I believe they are made using water colour paint, and there are mainly warm colours, which I think was used intentionally to create a feeling of warmth and belonging among the community members within this story. I could definitely see having this book in my Grade 3 classroom library, and would recommend this book to parents and teachers of children in the 4-10 age range who want to open up discussions about diversity and acceptance of others. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this wonderful book!
Every family is different. This book is a celebration of the diverse kinds of people and families we may see in our neighborhoods, towns, and countries.
A beautiful homage to the love a family can and should have, this book is filled with gorgeous illustrations that look like they are hand-painted with watercolor. They are vibrant and rich. The eye-catching colors will keep children engaged while this is being read.
The authors explore LGBTQIA+ people and their families. The narrator has two moms, the family next door is raised by a single dad, and across the street is a little girl and her transgender father. It goes into mixed or blended families, interracial families and adopted children. From only children to triplets, children living with grandparents or foster families, this book dives into every type of family and the most important part of it. Love.
A spectacular book for families to teach their children about different kinds of people and homes children are raised in, this book is all about acceptance. It is a great way to open up the discussion when children have questions about families they may see out and about. Their naturally curious minds will want to know more about them and this book will show them how to connect to those who are different, embrace and befriend them beyond just accepting them.
This story was both entertaining and educational, which can be a tricky balance to maintain in a children’s book, and I will be suggesting it to teachers whenever possible. Incorporating important topics such as kindness, friendship, diversity and tolerance of differences into children's picture books is a tried and true way to teach an important life skill in a way that is fun. This would be an amazing addition for classroom libraries, counselling offices and more.
I absolutely loved this picture book that gently and sweetly described different family types. The artwork is lovely as well! Definitely recommend as a nice family/neighborhood story.
The illustrations are absolutely beautiful!! This is a great early introduction to how diverse families can and should be. It exposes children to a wide variety of families that they may or may not have had experience with prior. It is a perfect starting point for many conversations.
All the Families in My Town is a quick little read that will pack a lasting impact! You will take a tour around a small town and get a small glimpse into each families lives. While no one family unit looks the same you can feel the love and devotion from each. This book beautifully celebrates our differences in a accessible and fun.
This story belongs on the shelves of every library and classroom around. It'll teach empathy to all who pick it up.
ARC provided by NetGalley and the publisher.
Probably my favorite children's book that I've read recently. Amazing and simple descriptions of the various types of families and the illustrations are so dreamy! Will be buying for myself and family <3
Absolutely an important book for libraries and schools to share. This book has so much diversity and love. The illustrations are spectacular! And can I just get a shout out for physical disability representation and for a couple who chose not to have kids and how it was beautifully explained. So so darling!
This book was amazing! It was very inclusive and shares such a positive message of acceptance and understanding of our differences. I love the diversity in this book, and it would be great to have younger kids exposed to the different kinds of family dynamics that this book portrays.
Thank you NetGalley and Chouette Publishing for presenting me with an ARC of this book in exchange of a honest review.
This book is supposed to available everywhere! Such a wholesome and innocent take on the LGBTQIA+ community, every child should be made to read this book. Honestly, I don't think there could be a better way of explaining these topics to little children. This book is everything a queer person could ask for and I'm so glad they exist.
"All the Families in My Town" is an absolutely stunning book. It's wonderful to see all the different family setups included in one book, although I wish there were more moments of interaction between the families rather than going through them one-by-one. In that way it feels a little less like a story and more like a list. However, with so few books managing to show this level of diversity in family setup, it's a great starting point for talking with kids about all the ways a family can be made. What really makes the book are the gorgeous illustrations by Ariane Caldin, which are warm and full of heart. Recommended to anyone who want their kids to know there's no single way to be a family.
This was one of the most beautful picture books I've ever seen. We're taken on a tour of this close knit town, featuring a diverse range of families- lesbian parents, a trans single dad, and a child being raised by grandparents to name a few. The explosion of colours in every illustration compliment the cover and make for a visually pleasing read to go with the beautiful story, I'm sure this would be a really enjoyable book for any child as well as a great conversation starter- but I also think this story can ultimately be enjoyed by all ages.
Thank you to NetGalley and Chouette Publishing for providing me with an advanced ebook copy of this title!
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
All the Families in my Town is an adorable children's book about family and how each family is unique and different. I love the diversity of this book and how inclusive it is towards modern day families. We meet 9 different families in this book: one with no children, one with two mums, one with two dads, one a dad on his own with children, one a trans parent, one where the child lives with grandparents, one where a child is fostered and more. This is a great book to give a child to help them understand either their own unique family unit or others around them, and teaches children that their is no 'normal' when it comes to families and that we are all unique and individuals.
All the Families in My Town is adorable. Point, blank, period. Going into this illustrated children's book, I knew what to expect from a brand assumption. I knew the main character would be explaining the various types of families that live around her and how they might be different yet very much the same. There are gay couples, disabled couples, trans representation, adoption, single couples, etc. All the Families in My Town weaves a beautiful little story of acceptance with warm color illustrations that capture the warmth of love, understanding, and the joy of families.
Aria, a sweet little girl, lives in a very tiny town consisting of only nine houses. She reflects on the diversity of the families that reside in those nine lodgings.
She explains how each family is different and truly unique from each other. She includes: a family with no children, one with two moms, one dad with children, one where a child lives with grandparents and one where a child has been adopted, just to name a few. The book explains that there really is no pat definition for one type of family. Families are units of people brought together by love. They are committed to living and staying together. A family expresses unconditional love and support to one another. I love this definition of a family from www.family.lovetoknow.com:
"The word family is one of the most loosely defined terms in the English language; because it means something different to everyone. While one person may define family as the relatives who share their home, another may consider family to include extended relatives residing near and far. Still, someone else views their beloved circle of friends or their pets as family. Families are vastly different, but all function under one single premise: shared love and commitment."
The illustrations are gorgeous, full of detail and bursting with beautiful colours. I love the warm inviting colour pallet that the illustrator has chosen to work with. This book will generate conversations regarding all the ways that families can be different. "All the Families in My Town" is a heartwarming book that will spark discussions about a variety of family styles and certainly would be a great asset, in classrooms and elementary school libraries. I highly recommend this book!
I am obsessed with this one! I immediately want to get it for every child in my life. This was a beautiful way to help make kids aware of all the ways to be family. Lovely and well explored with gorgeous art work.
This book is absolutely beautiful. The illustrations are so pretty and the use of mostly yellows and oranges adds to the joyfulness of the book.
I loved everything about this book and will read it to my children over and over. The inclusion of lots of different types of families and the LGBT+ representation is incredible and a great way for children to understand how families can come together. I especially loved the child-free by choice couple because they are often overlooked when it comes to these types of books and it was lovely to see them included as a reminder to us that those without children can still be a family.
This book is such a lovely way to look at different family structures. It shows so many families and Aria's character has such a positive view on each one. It will fit really well with the new relationships curriculum in the UK as it clearly shows how all families are connected together by the love they share with each other.
I acquired All The Families In My Town pre-release in exchange for an honest review
this gorgeously illustrated, gentle, sweet picture book addresses the concept of a "proper family" and shows that there is no such thing. families can consist of anyone from a boy and his grandparents, a single father, and his kids, or in the case of our narrator, a girl, and her two mums. plus I suspect the reason it's such a small town consisting of various families is for privacy away from the large and possibly judgemental crowds.
This is such a clever way to explain this to young kids! stock it in the classroom shelves!
A touching story about 9 unique families that live in a close-knit village. I appreciated the diversity of each family unit, showing that some families have two moms, single-parents, many children, no children at all, as well as parents and/or children with disabilities. The illustrations are beautiful and represent the story well. The prompts at the end were a qualitative addition.
Every person, whether young or old, should read this book! It is lovely and teaches such a valuable lesson about families. I don't know about you, but sometimes I avoid listening to the news because of how often it makes me lose faith in humanity. But every so often, I run into something that helps me regain it. This book is one of them.
While meant for children, I can think of many adults who can benefit from reading this book. Families do not all look the same. They come in all shapes and sizes. They can be made up of many or few members. May have one parent, two, three, four, or more. They can be made up of same-sex parents or heterosexual parents. But all have one thing in common: love.
This is definitely a book worth having in your family library.
Oh Lord, I need to have the physical copy ASAP! And it should definitely be translated into many languages cause it is the most touching kids' book I have lately read.
This story should be read by many adults as well. The portrayal of the small city and the families is the greatest. It shows tolerance, variety, and great respect for people's choices and lifestyles.
Pure perfection. Great story about the most important things written in such a cute way. Short but including everything that I wanted to learn my daughter about.
I'm so grateful for it
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Oh. My. Goodness !! This was the most precious children's book I have read in ages. Mayhaps I even teared up a bit !!
When I got into publishing in 2017, I was so set on working in adult trade.... and then I attended a lecture from the editorial director of Greenwillow Books and my heart was swayed; I fell in love with children's literature that day. And since then, while I am still unsure as to whether or not I will have children of my own, I've been building a collection of my favorite children's books (picture books, board books). I can say, without a doubt, that this needs to be added to my collection, stat ! It is absolutely the kind of book I want to share with the parents and expecting parents in my life. It's the type of book—thoughtful and lighthearted and loving—that their kids deserve!
P.S. As an honorary Canadian (long story lol) and French speaker, I'm so happy to support Canadian and French creators 💚 Je besoin d'une copie française tout de suite !!
A wonderful children's book that breaks down different kinds of families and family dynamics. Our main character, Aria, helps introduce the reader to all the different families that live in her town and, by doing so, helps break down that feeling of "otherness" that can so often accompany the introductions of people who live differently. It's a wonderful story that every child should have read to them. Book like these can help break down barriers and normalize all different living situations. I would highly recommend this book to teachers for their classroom library and anyone who wants to help teach their kids more about the world. Kids will love the book and the gorgeous illustrations that go along with it.
This books is so beautifully illustrated and we love how the families and family circumstances are explained in child speak. We especially loved the transgender description, ‘matching how the heart feels’ is such a simple but clear explanation and in a world where we sometimes over complicate, this is actually all that’s needed.
The uniqueness of all families are included so it’s not singling out LGBTQ+ and clumping diverse families together as ‘other’ families, there are childless couples, blended families and families choosing alternative living.
Even the end papers of this book are beautiful!
I’m in the process of adopting myself and I’m thrilled to have read this book. It’s a amazing representation of what different families can look like in a community. This is modern family! Not everyones home is the same but they are beautiful in their own way. This is a MUST buy!!!
I wrote this review for my blog and Instagram: Miloureadsbooks
Don’t you just love seeing families full of love and joy? This kid’s book shows how diversity and representation are both normal and beautiful parts of life. Each illustration is a celebration of sharing your life with others (even if you do not want children).
A girl lives with her two moms in a small village, so small that there are only nine houses. She shows us around, introducing us to the different families, telling us each home contains an entire universe. There are families who always have the most delicious food cooked by a single father, a couple who are older, very much in love, and never wanted to have kids, a trans dad showing pictures to his daughter, blended, a foster and an intergenerational family dancing, playing cards and planting flowers, and a father in a wheelchair who loves playing tennis.
It is always a challenge when writing about diversity to ensure it’s neither too educational or too one-dimension. I think by showing people’s hobbies, their interactions, their happiness, and love, there is quite a good balance! It’s a relaxing and cheerful bedtime story, and many children enjoy meeting new people, even if it’s through a book. What do you think?
The illustrations are amazing too. I love the use of orange, which makes all the pictures so warm and lively. This is further strengthened by the flowing contours and shapes within each page. It’s truly impressive how Ariane Caldin made the skin colors shine through, even though they have such a sunny hue.
All the families in our town shows how unique and diverse our neighbours can be. This is a snapshot on what could be going on in others lives, and is a good tool to show how different we all are.
The illustrations really stand out to me there is so much going on and so much to look at. The orange and blue flow throughout giving flow and movement to the book. A must in every library.
Beautiful illustrations and a great story that introduces young readers to a full array of different family dynamics. A good learning resource for children.
This book is seriously beautiful! I LOVE the illustrations, the color, the design of the book, everything. And I love the story as well, how it shows us that there are different types of families, the innocence of children, and how accepting we can be if we just become more aware and open-minded.
What a lovely book it was😍. I'm so glad that I picked this book. This book introduces us to different types of families in Aria's village and shows that Aria is happy having them in her village. The concept of the book is unique and it'll help the children to discover the different types of families in reality and the illustrations of this book was too cute.
Thanks to Netgalley and Chouette publishing for giving me this lovely E-ARC.
I wouldn't typically read a children's book but I seen the cover of this on NetGalley and thought the illustrations looked beautiful. When I realised that it was a children's book I thought, lets give it a try.
'All the Families in My Town' is a short book about the different types of diverse families that exist - your standard 'nuclear family', divorced families, single parent families, adopted families, couples without children and so on. I thought that it was well crafted in a fun, appealing way and although many would probably say that books like this are preachy, I felt as though this one would be a very effective way to teach younger children that every family is different, and it doesn't have to be a big deal.
The illustrations inside were just as beautiful as the cover, if not more so. They were vibrant and appealing; exactly what you would want from a book aimed at this demographic. I really loved the warm colours used throughout the book and think any child would enjoy looking at these pictures.
Ten families, ten different views of what makes a family (love) all beautifully done in words and illustrations. It shows us that different is wonderful, too.
Ariane Caldin fills the pages with colorful, creative illustrations which add even more love and meaning to this book.
Robin Bright has brilliantly translated this book into English from the French (Canadian).
Read it WITH a child! Then get one for your local library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Chouette Publishing/CrackBoom! Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
Beautifully illustrated book full of love and warmth. I especially loved the spreads about adoption and a couple with no kids. It might be just about nine houses, but it's a good reminder that we are all in this together.
that book was so beautiful and I absolutely adored reading it, I love all the diverse families that were introduced to us, the illustrations were absolutely delightful !
A stunning book that really made my children appreciate the world and people around them. The illustrations and colours used in the book are gorgeous and I found my children really focused in on them.
First of all, I am so in love with the illustrations in this book. The colour story and the whimsical lines are so appealing. I just love everything about it. Moreover, the story itself is so, so, SO important. Families can look very different, and as a child you may not always know that there are other families who are similar to yours (or completely different, for that matter). The representation is fantastic. I wish there was more.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an eARC. All opinions are my own.
Super cute! I love the art style and the text is lovely. It does a really good job of making it accessible and easy to explain different family concepts and start conversations with kids about it.
This was a very lovely children's story about a little girl and her family and all of the other families in her neighborhood.
The story does a very good job of showing a diverse group of families, from a little girl with two moms, a family that only has a dad, foster parents, a blended family, and even an older couple who never wanted children (which the author makes a point of explaining is an okay thing to want too!). And not only are there different kinds of families but different kinds of people for a wide variety of representation.
The art style is very fun and unique and I think it worked really well with the story!
At the end of the book there is a note for parents about how the book is meant to start a dialogue with their kids about how kids can come from all different kinds of families and questions they could ask which I thought was a good addition.
Thank you to NetGalley and Chouette Publishing for making this available in exchange for an honest review!
I absolutely loved this book! All the characters have their own story, not to mention the amazing illustrations. There is amazing representation of not only different races but also queer and disabled parents. I will definitely be buying the physical copy for my nephew. Thank You so much for giving me the opportunity to read such an amazing book here on net galley.
This book is a perfect way to illustrate differences in family and make these difference understandable to all. It does it in such a way as to be open with concepts and ideas some may find troublesome but shouldn’t. A family is a family, and they are all different in all types of ways. And the artwork, while done in washes of yellows and browns, are at once classic and old fashioned while still being fresh and new. All over this book was excellent and should be on all library shelves.
This book is perfect! I absolutely adored not only the artwork but the writing as well. The author and illustrator did such a good job of high lighting diverse families and people. This blew my expectations. I cannot wait to buy this book.
All the Families in My Town, is stunning! I cannot say enough good things about this book. The illustrations were breathtaking, the message was fundamentally important, it's written in a way adults and children will both appreciate, and honestly, it touched my heart.
This book is essential because it raises awareness of families and the diversity of ALL people. It's crucial to start this for children at a young age, so they will grow to be accepting and understanding with the knowledge that not all families look the same. It will create meaningful conversations with your children or students. I will be adding this to my classroom.
It gives a message that families come in many different ways, but each is special.
Thank you to the authors, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this unique book. I definitely recommend it.
THIS! THIS RIGHT HERE! THIS IS SOMETHING I WANT MORE OF! More stories for children explaining and showing different family structures! There is no such things as a ‘one size fits all’ family, I mean, that is not even accurate for clothing! Let alone for human beings!! Yes are are all human, but that is at far, as that one goes. I’m absolutely loving this, everything is explained from Aria’s (child’s) perspective, which makes this so much better, more relatable for kids. I really hope this will become a standard book at schools, libraries and other educational settings! The illustrations have a ‘painted on’ vibe in warm colours, making each and every page feel like a painting! My favourite page is the ‘sleep over’ page, the way the colour blend and get the message across is a work of art by itself.
Lovely illustrations that cover a wide variety of family types. A good introduction for children, and a starting point for parents to explain different family dynamics.
Includes same sex parents, trans parents, adoptive families, foster families, single parents, grandparents raising their grandkids, disabled parents, and even a couple who never had children. All simply told at a child’s level of understanding, including a couple of comments from our narrator that they don’t understand everything.

This is, inarguably, the most beautifully illustrated children's story I've read in a long time. My 6 year old was completed enthralled from the cover forward, she could not stop gushing about how lovely it was on each and every page. Combined with the easily understood and heartfelt story, this is a book that will be coming home to our personal library as soon as it is released.
We thought this was such a gentle and sweet way to talk about the wide variety of families that surround us everywhere. It was diverse, inclusive, natural, and filled with love from start to end. It was refreshing to see more than just the mainstream type of families included in this love story to the neighborhood. There was a childfree couple, a foster family, queer families, single families, and more. Cannot say enough how comforting this story is and I look forward to gifting it to many new families. ♥
What an absolutely stunning book! I feel so lucky to have gotten the chance to read an ARC of this because I can see it being a huge success. This is a book all children should read and enjoy as they relate to the stories told in the book. There are so many quotes to be taken from this book that I could see it being enjoyed with younger children but also read as poignant reminder to older children of just how diverse our world is.
I loved it - what a triumph!
The story is about a little girl named Aria. She lives in a small hometown and she knows her neighborhood very well. They consist of different races, abilities, religions, and ages. A start-up book for kids to learn about their surroundings and understand the concepts of everybody is matter.
Beautiful illustration and important message. Thanks to @netgalley and the publisher for providing an earc. I give 5 ⭐️
This title has been bugging me for a while. And what a nice surprise! ^^
Aria introduces us to the inhabitants of her small village. Her town includes only 9 families, but they are all unique and above all happy together. Through this presentation, the authors demonstrate the thousand and one ways in which the family unit can be arranged: separated parents, adopted children, single-parent families, LGBTQ+ couples... a great way to open minds on the definition of the word "family". , but also a work advocating diversity and tolerance.
The illustrator has a soft and round line, which immediately won me over. With beautiful coloring in watercolor and pencil, the boards are colorful and perfectly eye-catching for both children and adults.
In short, a very beautiful book, to discover ! ^^
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book! Below is my honest review.

✔️ Beautiful illustrations and color scheme
Cons about the book:
❌ None
Would I recommend this book? Yes!
The art in this is so good I love it! It was a fast an enjoyable read! My nieces and nephews are going to love this book when they can read it in hand instead of on a tablet.
Such a simple, straightforward picture book about the different kinds of families that exist, in this case, in a small down. The examples include a transgender father, a married couple without children, the narrators two mothers, and a family with foster kids.
The narrator talks about each family explaining how they are different, but that it is ok, because we all have slightly different household, and that should be just fine.
A great book to teach children about the different kinds of families out there, as well as for those who want to show their kids that there is nothing odd about the family they are in. As I always say, it would have been so good to have this sort of book when my daughter was growing up.

"The families in my town are very special. What makes your family special?"
I can't say enough about All the Families in My Town. It's the hippie children's book about inclusion I wish I'd had 25 years ago for my children, or 50 years ago for myself, but it's so current and fresh, maybe it simply couldn't be until now.
Our narrator takes us on the tour of her small hometown, where no one is "normal" so that must make special the norm! Through her child's eyes, we meet some very unique people, who she accepts at face value. Why wouldn't she? If there are differences, she embraces them. She cannot understand why people might mock or criticize people for listening to their hearts. She knows it's important for everyone to feel "free to be themselves."
The illustrations by Ariane Caldin have a definite retro look to them, like something whimsical I can recall from the 1970s. The sunny oranges, the deep blues, all the richness is so comforting and warm. I can't say enough about these watercolors, except that I adore them.
This book is an absolute treasure. The artwork is gorgeous and the representation is beautiful. Aria tells the reader about each house in her small town and the families that live in them. LGBTQ representation, differently abled bodies and couples that chose not to have children are all included. Highly recommend!
The idea behind this children's book is truly noteworthy and well executed overall. It's meant to raise awareness about the rich diversity of families, promote tolerance and acceptance.
Special mention for the visuals and the cover: they're so gorgeous! The aesthetics is top notch!
The only downside to the book is its lack of plot or story. Basically it's a catalogue of different households.
A beautifully-made one, but still I would've loved for it to offer a bit more.
Full disclosure: This was provided via Netgalley in return for an honest review.
This little book was amazing. 10/10 and I will be recommending this to as many people as I can.
Its cute, its easy to read, the illustrations are beautiful; best of all the inclusivity is brilliant.
There is rep for people with disabilities, LGBT parents of more than one variety (same sex couples and trans parents), single parents, adoption and foster families just to name a few.
I love it, everyone should read it, delightfully heartwarming in its representation.
I read this one a while ago and while I knew exactly why I loved it, I was having a hard time being able to write this review because I knew I wouldn't do it justice.
This was an EXCEPTIONAL book. It is SO simple, yet beyond powerful. It shows that children are so very innocent and accept everyone for who they are. I absolutely loved the diversity of families that were depicted in this- especially finally seeing the family style I'm in being represented- I was shocked.
Families of all shapes and sizes were so beautifully touched upon and gorgeously illustrated- this is THE COZIEST of COZY books and a great book to spark conversations between you and a kiddo. I honestly believe that while the book is marketed and illustrated for children, the messages are FANTASTIC for adults....children learn their behavior/thoughts/etc from what they see and hear at home and tolerance starts with US- we need to be better.
A++++++, beyond important and timely read for ALL AGES! We can all BE BETTER.
All the Families in My Town is a cute book who introduces to kids different types of families. But the bottom line is that even if a house has two mommies, or one daddy, or a daddy who used to be a girl and didn't wanted to be anymore, even then, if there is love inside this house, it's all you need. EVERYONE should read this book.
I really enjoyed this book and I thought that it had a good storyline
I liked that the book had such a wide range of couples and families and the mixes show just how diverse they can be, from couples without children, same-sex couples and same-sex families and adopted as well as natural children it is great for explaining differences if questions are raised by younger children
It was well written and it had a good flow to the book
It is 4 stars from me for this one, highly recommended!
