When I had to present an oral report or speech in school, I was so nervous I often memorized everything. That put unnecessary pressure on myself. I hope students read this fun instructional book on how to speak confidently. The excellent advice on breathing techniques, body posture, and eye contact are so essential for success. Being able to stand up in front of a group of people and do a presentation in person or on ZOOM is an essential life skill which seldom comes naturally.
Thank you NetGalley, DK and Lizzie Waterworth for providing me with an eARC of How To Talk So People Will Listen.
This is a really great book for its market. It is focused mainly on public speaking and providing kids with the skills to be able to communicate in these setting. Some of it is transferable to the class room or to general conversations.
It has fun illustrations and I sure it will be a bright and engaging read for a lot of kids. I request this thinking that there might be some transferrable skills for adults. There are transferrable skills but they are very simple, it has the building blocks for kids to put into place early in their life which is fantastic for educating kids.
This is a FANTASTIC book. Here I am, 71 years old, and I am reading a book about How To Talk So People Will Listen as reinforcement for my teaching portion of my career. I admit, I still get nervous! Yesterday I taught a class, and it was a wonderful class. I used some of the techniques and tools taught and everything was great. So, even at my advanced age, it is good to learn and to have knowledge reinforced. This book is VERY accessible to young people and is a pleasant read and has terrific advice. The author is a voice actor from the UK and she has a tremendous sense of humor. Great advice throughout from many show business and public speaking experts, It is well written and it is a well designed and illustrated book. A winner all around.
