My shape obsessed 3 year old loved this book! You could read this book over and over and find something new on each page. The option of turning each page into a game on finding certain shapes/colors will keep kids coming back. This made for a great read and kept my 3 and 1 year old enthralled with the colors! Will definitely buy!
Shapes and Shapes is a fun book that is sure to capture the attention of kids. There is alot going on for each page which makes it fun to try to pick out things together as a game. My only issue was some of the wording was just a bit too much and repetitive. I understand that it was meant to show how shapes can be found everywhere. However, after having to read " look a ___ or it's a ____" page after page, it can get a bit draining.
Okay, take it from me... this book should be added to every preschool and kindergarten's curriculum as a required book. Kids of all ages, from toddlers to elementary-aged students, will adore this book and the way it teaches shapes. I am a pediatric speech therapist and find that kids love to play around with shapes. I've never known how to channel their interest in shapes until reading this book. So, this book aimed towards young children actually taught me a thing or two, (and I'm not ashamed to admit it!) I think this author/cartoonist is absolutely brilliant. Not only does he teach children about less common shapes (i.e. octagons, half circles, etc.), he also introduces 3-dimensional shapes like cubes and cones. What I love most is that Brunetti teaches how to identify shapes in everyday things- from glasses to planets to baseball diamonds... he points out that everything is a shape. And just like the children in his book, I continued to look for shapes in everyday objects after reading. (Sidenote: I love that he includes a mini space lesson in this book. Kids will love to review the planets as they read those pages...because what child doesn't love space?) I also think this book will inspire children to experiment with drawing and with putting shapes together to create what they want. It sure helped me learn how to draw a simple car by using common shapes (something I'm thrilled to know how to do as my 2-year-old constantly asks me to draw him a "caw"). Overall, I'm really excited about this book. I'm glad it is supposed to released soon as I want to buy a copy for my own 2 children.
Thank you to the author and netgalley for allowing me to read and review such a work of art.
This book was adorable, and made it easy to have a shape lesson right after we finished the book! We discovered new shapes together, and we were able to build our creations after. Great book that gave lots of ideas! I had a kiddo come up to me and say “ I have a square and a triangle and I made a house” after reading this book! Great work!
Shapes and Shapes is a fun exploration of the different shapes that surround us. Look around and you will see triangles and rectangles, circles and squares, octagons and pentagons everywhere you look! I love that we go through different parts of the child's world (school, home, neighborhood) and we get to explore all the different shapes we see! The illustrations are a visual treat!
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this advanced review copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest review on the book!
This book is a fun way to help teach young children about shapes. My four year old son really enjoyed the story and stayed engaged throughout. Love how interactive all of the illustrations were. Great book for young kids.
Thanks NetGalley for the preview!
We loved this vibrant book! A great tool for imagining and teaching shapes. Could also be used for math and learning colors. Adorable and fun!
Shapes and Shapes is a fun picture book written in a comic/ graphic novel style for little kids. It's a nice introduction to the format! The story is simple - a teacher spreads out lots of shapes and encourages the students to use their imaginations to create with the shapes. There is so much to look at in the illustrations and you could do a little i-Spy with different shapes and colors. There are so many ways to expand upon learning after reading this story - different arts and crafts, a neighborhood walk i-Spy for shapes, playing with those wooden pattern blocks, endless possibilities!
I just reviewed Shapes and Shapes by Ivan Brunetti. #ShapesandShapes #NetGalley
This is a great picture book for review shapes with students! High interest, colorful illustrations keep even reluctant readers engaged and diving into the book as they search for all sorts of shapes. Comic book talk bubbles provide quick and to the point dialogue between characters that even reluctant readers will have no problem reading. An overall great picture book that's fun for lower elementary readers!
