Description

A lovely and heartwarming illustrated children’s book about friendship, taking turns, and caring for one another by award-winning author Marianne Dubuc.

Beloved children's book author and illustrator Marianne Dubuc chronicles the adventure and collaboration that ensues when four animal friends take turns caring for a precious little egg they find in the woods.

Enter the beautifully illustrated world of Bear, Hare, Turtle, and Mouse. In Dubuc's signature soft and inviting watercolor scenes, these forest friends make an unexpected discovery and turn to each other to find a shared solution. They decide they each will have a turn caring for the egg in their homes.

Mouse's house is chilly, so a cozy fire is set ablaze in the fireplace. At Bear's house, exercise and activity rule the day, and Little Egg hatches out of her shell! The next stop is Hare's house, where Bear and Hare dote over the newborn chick and face a new challenge: trying to find something for her to eat! Finally, it's on to Turtle's house for a special time exploring Turtle's treasures and sharing stories.

An endearing picture book that celebrates friendship and encourages young readers to share and trust in the power of community and their own resourcefulness, Everyone Gets a Turn is a wonderful read-aloud book for children with a timeless message.

I adored this little children's story.

I read it with my daughter who's just learning to read and she said;
"I liked how the mouse found the egg! I liked how the egg visits all the houses and how the egg hatched at bears house. The drawings are nice too."

I loved the illustrations! So nicely drawn and colored.

I received an early released copy of this book and I'm leaving my review of my own free will.

Very sweetly-illustrated story! I loved the art throughout the book and how expressive each character was. The story was nice but unsurprising, and did not give much insight into the characters waiting for their turns.

What a delight to discover Marianne Dubuc’s charming picture book about four animal friends who take turns caring for an egg which soon turns into an independent little yellow bird. Each of the animal friends shares their talents with the bird and, in turn, the bird gets them to consider what names they’d choose for themselves. The author and illustrator is from Quebec, Canada and has written and illustrated several picture books with some in English and some in French. I plan to look for her other picture books as I enjoyed this one so much.

This story was cute! I really think it’s so hard for kids to learn how to take turns and why they have to, so I think this is a great book to have out!

This book had depth to it. The illustrations are cute and whimsical. 4 friends are together in the woods and find an egg. They decide to each take a turn having the egg at their home and taking care of their guest. The story points out some of the differences between the friends, yet they get along well and enjoy each other’s company. All of the friends are sweet, kind and memorable. I was given a copy from the publisher and NetGalley. My review expresses my own unbiased opinions. This would make a nice bedtime story, perhaps 2 or 3 nights worth. Relaxing and soothing, the story flows nicely.

So sweet, a beautiful story with cozy vibes and friendship to celebrate individuality and acceptance. We are all different and unique and we can all live in harmony with each other offering help and our strengths. A great sense of community.
I love that the story is illustrated in short episodes in comic book format. The illustrations are clean, clear, and beautiful. I wanted to be the turtle and live in that house.
Thank you, publisher and net galley for this e-ARC.

"Everyone Gets a Turn" is a sweet, heartwarming picture book that I would recommend to children between the ages of 7-10. It's a book about a group of animal friends that find an egg (eventually baby chick) that they learn to take care of through sharing. This teaches young ones about not only sharing and taking turns, but also about taking care of others, and even about differences in people. Each animal friend has different interests and likes different foods.

What I especially liked in this book was its comic book/graphic novel-style illustrations with dialogue in word bubbles. It makes this feel more mature than a regular picture book.

had so much fun reading this book, the story is so adorable and the illustrations were so well done and charming, there’s so many little details in every page that I couldn’t stop but be mesmerized by it all. I will definitely be recommending it! Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this early copy

This is a very sweet book. I really liked how it showed the reader the different things each of the animals had to offer the little egg/bird and they were all beautiful. I’d definitely recommend for a parent of elementary aged children or a classroom setting.

This was cute, but for some reason the story didn't flow very smoothly for me. I did really enjoy the message that growth and sharing looks different fur each of us because we all have different strengths and passions.

This book, Everyone Gets A Turn, follows four animal friends - a bear, a hare, a turtle, and a mouse, as each one cares for an egg that they found in the woods. Each character gives extra attention and compassion to the little egg as it progresses from egg to the birth of the chick and until it is able to care for itself.
The story was an excellent example of parental love and care.
Written in a graphic format made it fun and refreshing. The illustrations were adorable and friendly. The prose flowed and would be very understandable for a young child to read themselves or for a selection for story time.
I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet and engaging tale.
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review it.

Thank you to Netgalley and Chronicle Books for the opportunity to read and review this picture book for my students. This is definitely a story I would be adding for my students to read. It is simple to understand, there are multiple conflicts, and characters to keep up with, and the story makes sense with a straightforward timeline and lesson at the end. Overall, would highly recommend! 5 out of 5 stars

I was pretty excited to add another learning source into teaching my 3 year old how to take turns. What better way than a story? He enjoyed it and now says is it my turn?!

Cute story about four animals who find an egg in the woods. Each cares for the egg for a short period of time, allowing the reader a peek into different households. While everyone has the egg's best interest at heart, each animal has a different way to show care. Children will learn from this story that not every home is the same and it doesn't have to be, in order to find love and care.

The forest animals learn to share by taking turns caring for someone smaller and more dependent than they are. A well-done lesson for all of us in the form of multiple frame illustrations.
The illustrations by the author are fun, interesting, meaningful, colorful, and delightful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or your local public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Chronicle Books/Princeton Architectural Press via NetGalley. Thank you!

Adorable illustrations and a sweet story about growth towards independence. Bear, Hare, Mouse and Turtle provide lovely lessons for Clara, and then learn something from her. I like easy books in simple comic book format. They offer kids some direction in following the story across the page.

Everyone Gets a Turn is a cute graphic novel about different animals taking turns taking care of an egg that they found while playing outside. By the second house, the egg hatches and the friends take care of the little chick. This is a cute intro into graphic novels for young readers!

It shows young readers the importance of teamwork as well as the energy it take to take care of young children like themselves. Very sweet book with cute art illustrations.

I received an electronic ARC from Chronicle Books through NetGalley.
Dubuc brings her characters to life with fun, joy and compassion. Readers meet four friends who honor playing their own ways. They find an egg and decide to bring it back with them. Their support and friendship comes through with their decision to take turns keeping the egg rather than fighting over it. A lesson to discuss with readers as the story unfolds. Then, the egg hatches and a fifth friend is added to the group. Little Bird has strong opinions and soon establishes their own home and way of being part of the group. I appreciate the emphasis on being who you choose to be even if others have been part of your caretaking. The artwork captures the friends and their surroundings so readers feel they are living in the forest too. A fun read for elementary level readers.

Everyone Gets a Turn is a cute story about friends learning how to share. When a group of friends come across an egg, they all want to take it home and care for it, resulting in them taking turns. Learning to share is a huge part in growing up and should be expressed early on in life. The illustrations are adorable and easy to follow.
