What a beautiful and unexpectedly comprehensive guidebook to the plant life along the entire Pacific Crest Trail. Even as an only occasional hiker, I have enjoyed portions of the trail with its varied and often wild beauty. At 372 pages, from a practical standpoint, the volume may make more sense as an at-home pre-or post-hike reference, rather than a backpack companion. Nonetheless, the book offers much interesting knowledge and is visually appealing.

The Plants of the Pacific Crest Trail - A Hiker’s Guide to Northern California by Dana York and James M. André is beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. So informative, easy to read through and if you are stuck at home with a knee injury as I am right now, it is a wonderful thing to savour these stunning books and travel the natural landscape of America through the eyes of people that live the land

I cannot recommend these books enough. They are field guides but likewise great reference for students of all types, art lovers, biologists, people that love the natural world.

Thank you to Netgalley, Timber Press and the authors Dana York and James M. André for this absolutely stunning ARC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own
