In Time

'In Time' by Marina Ruiz is a beautifully written book about stopping and appreciating nature's beauty and what only time can create. "Time seems to be passing so slowly," the little girl says. My mom always says, "A little while." or "Just a moment." I just want time to speed up like a roller coaster. It would be nice to whizz through the days. In a blink of an eye, a tree could grow taller than a mountain from seeds. As I wait, I see things I've never seen before. The petals of a beautiful flower open one by one. As it moves forward, a tiny snail leaves a trail. The wind stirs the leaves and branches in the forest. I hear them whisper..."We had to wait to grow mighty and strong. Just like you, we were once little before. But time thickened our trunks and lengthened our roots. Now, when storms come, we can dance with the wind."

'In Time' is a fantastic book. The book teaches children to be patient, to look at what nature can offer, and to appreciate each day for what it can provide. Check out this book.

I thought this was a really well-written book. I don't know of too many books that discuss the concept of time like this. As children, we always want time to go faster for whatever reason, maybe because we want school to be over for the weekend or summer break, can't wait for our birthday or a holiday, or just to be older and more independent. We don't realize then how much we will want time to slow when we get older and how we may end up wishing time went a bit slower back then so we could have enjoyed it more. I love that this book brings all that up in an easy-to-understand way for children. This book helps children think and try to appreciate where we are right now and enjoy the moments we are in right now.

The illustrations are absolutely beautiful. They narrate the story perfectly and allow children to become engaged in them. I love the colours that are used and I think they pull the whole story together.

Every mother can identify with this book. How many times have you been asked “Are we there yet?” Or “When can we go?” And as a parent, at the end of each day, we are exhausted and can’t wait for the day to end. Then suddenly, our children are wanting phones and sleep away camps, and the time slips away. This book talks about how precious time is while we are always wishing it would move faster. The pictures are dreamy and soft in color, lending itself to the wistful atmosphere of the book. I’m adding this to my list of giftable books for new parents.

This was such a great story about a little red haired girl that feels like time moves too slow for her but the trees, flowers, and a cave show her how enjoy the pace that time moves. I felt like I was in elementary school again with my teacher reading this book to the class. I genuinely enjoyed this story and its lesson and I feel like children will love this book.

The illustrations in this book were beautiful!! I loved the way the words flowed and were incorporated into the illustrations also. The writing was full of descriptions and metaphors that brought so much depth to the story. I loved the message of slowing down and appreciating the small thing, but also loved how it explained how growth can be amazing too!

Who doesn't remember how excruciatingly slowly time moved as a child? How our parents said that it went fast, but how could it when "later" sounded like forever from now, and there was no way we could wait?
Marina Ruiz manages to capture the magic of the passage of time for children vs. adults in this sweet, quick read for kids in a book so magical, with such sweet and lovely art, that the 21 tiles of the book doesn't feel like nearly enough.
My son, who is 16 months old, loved it and will absolutely sit through me reading it to him again.

I think this book would be a great accompaniment when teaching your children/students to be patient. Not only does it validate the child's feelings about time going on and on and on (which I'm sure we can all relate to) but it also gives reasons why they should slow down and look at the world around them, the things they can see, feel, hear, etc. if they just take a second to obverse their surroundings. Marina did an amazing job with the illustrations throughout this book, not only are they beautiful, colourful and unique to Marina's style but they are also clearly thought out. I also think many adults could use this book to help them slow down a bit (myself included)
To put it quite simply if you are experiencing an impatient child, or your impatient yourself you should definitely read this book

This book is a great reminder to children and adults alike to slow down and appreciate everything around you. I love the child's perspective of everything going slow and the very accurate perspective of the parent who doesn't have enough time in the day. I would love to read this book at bedtime to my toddler. The illustrations were whimsical and lovely.

This is a gorgeous book which will delight any picture book reader with a story of patience and the rewards which come from slowing down and observing the world.
I will be recommending it to our childrens librarian and of course to families who are looking for a lovely picture book.

This is the kind of book I will definitely read and talk about with my child! It shows that it is worth waiting for some things in a world where we are always running. Even I stopped for some minutes after reading it, to think about the things I missed because I'm always running and planning my next task...

So, so cute. The focus is having patience, and being mindful of how the world moves around you and how it all impacts the bigger picture. The watercolor art is absolutely stunning, and the ultimate moral of wanting to pause time on a perfect moment—fantastic.

This is a beautiful, heartwarming story about a little girl's journey growing up where time seems to move so slowly and how she wishes it would speed up. The ending of this book brought tears to my eyes! The mother wants nothing more than to stop time and prevent her daughter from growing up. The idea of how we perceive time as we age hit me hard.

This is a wonderfully sentimental picture book about time, patience and love filled with delicate watercolour illustrations that stir emotions with every turn of the page.

This book was adorable! I love the meaning behind the story and the young girl learning to be patient. This book hold a lot of meaning and children of all ages and parents will love it.

A beautiful story about the magic and power of time, and the importance of patience. We both begin and end the story with desire to slow down time and capture just a moment of it forever. Following the journey of a young girl as she learns all the wonderful things that happen as years, days and minutes pass by! From the growing of forests to the shaping of sand, In Time reminds us to enjoy each moment. The illustrations are gorgeous and would be easy for a young reader to follow along!

Aww… adorable!

In Time is the story of a little girl who is impatient for time to fly at high speed and realizes the beauty of letting each second linger the way it does. From waiting for the clock to tick and tick, she understands the need for things to grow and develop in their own time and space.
This is a short and super cute book that teaches kids to savor each moment and find comfort in idleness and stillness. The book starts with the contrast between her mom’s busy life and her dragging life at school. However, as the day progresses, she sinks into a lucid dream where nature shows the truth of things.
I love the idea and the execution (though little ones should not walk into forests without adult supervision). Each page has only a few words of text, making it easy for kids to read. It is prose-poetry, which works for the theme and creates a nice sing-song rhythm to set the mood.
The illustrations are so, so beautiful! They are whimsical, colorful, and messy but also soothing and appealing. I think the illustrations are a blend of crayons and pencil colors. The textures are amazing! The girl and her mommy have two cute dogs as well. Another plus!

To summarize, In Time is a beautiful book showing the need to slow down and value each moment instead of rushing through life.

I sincerely love how children's books are full of wisdom of its own, entering into a child's simplistic yet wonderful way of thinking, once also my perspective. Time felt odd as a kid, even my experiences as an adult felt different at times. I love the art, the colors and the style, they really suits the overall story. My niece would love it!

This picture book has very age-appropriate ideas about time, as a scientific and philosophical concept. The prose is gorgeous and the relationship between the little girl and her mother is so sweet. However, what made me really love this book is the illustrations. Not only are the pictures beautiful, but the artist uses color and form to reflect the concepts regarding time. It's amazing. We are given the opportunity to follow a little girl's relationship with time and her ultimate discovery of what we need to slow down for.

The gorgeous flowing artwork matches the mood of the prose and the combination is one of the best children's books this reader has encountered in a long while.

There are some picture books that just speak to a person. This is one that is beautiful.

There are so many moments and days that seem like they never end, dragging on, endless waiting (especially for children) for the next big event. And yet, in those slow moment, time can be appreciated. "In Time" by Marina Ruiz effortlessly connects the reader to how the passing of time fluctuates in this beautifully illustrated picture book.

The book was beautifully written. The illustrations were simple, yet engaging. The author made careful word choices that were very impactful. Overall, the book was well written and I did really enjoy it.

We have all been there. Time is going by slowly for this young child, who wants to get a better grasp of the time passing, and gradually, things change for her.

The illustrations are lovely and depict a regular house with children, a busy city and beautiful landscapes.
The prose and the poetic musings offer great insights into patience, the passing and the concept of time, and the moment.
Suitable for all ages of children, perfect/ideal for 5-13 yos, and adults who like children’s books.

I read this with a child with special needs and they enjoyed it very much. They felt seen because of their struggle with patience and the time sense at times.

In Time is such a precious children's book about a little girl's struggle with the experience of time. The illustrations are very refined and translate this sense of chaos and uncertainty. I really love the message it says about how we, as kid or grownup, grapple with the sense of time in our hectic lives, especially in this society where everything needs to be rushed and hastened. Recommended!

Young readers will be intrigued by this book about time, as we follow a little red-haired girl as she experiences time differently depending upon the circumstances. Sometimes a car ride can feel like it takes forever, while getting ready in the morning makes time go too fast. But if we slow way down and wait and observe what's around us, perfect moments can arise.

The prose and concepts seem a bit complex for the targeted age group (4-7 years). Slightly older readers will enjoy it more. Still a treasure and a great teaching tool about time. And those gorgeous illustrations absolutely melt the heart!

The illustrations are beautifully created to show exactly what is being talked about. I would love to buy this book for my kids and would give it to others for a gift as well!
