This was such a fun read. I generally don’t do genres other than mystery but this one sounded fun and it did not disappoint. It doesn’t hurt that I live in a farming area so I have a soft spot. I would recommend it.

Look out farmersonly.com the women will be flocking to your site after reading about smoking hot Nova Scotia farmer Jay Andrews. After their meetcute almost drowning together in icy water, Alyson arrives at the orchard she inherited from a great uncle. Her father accused her of not being able to stick to anything for more than a month and she's bet her trust fund to prove him wrong. But she begins to have serious doubts about her capabilities after being chased around the yard by a rooster named Cluck Norris and promptly falling on her face in the mud at the feet of none other than her hot rescuer who just happens to be her neighbor.
I had so much fun reading this book. I laughed so hard and I was sharing the hilarious parts of the book with my friend until I got her too interested. I had to stop sharing all the fun so I don't ruin the book for her! I definitely needed this romcom as I sit here recovering from covid.
Thank you to Cathryn Fox and Entangled Publishing for giving me the best laughs in weeks! I already purchased Hooked On You and I'm hoping to have as much fun with it as this one.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The views and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

The Burbs and the Bees is a sweet and funny romantic comedy set in a small rural town in Nova Scotia. Alyson is a New York City native who suddenly finds herself the owner of an apple orchard and a menagerie of farm animals. She has no idea what she’s gotten herself in for but if she wants to keep hold of her trust fund she has to make a go of running a farm for the next thirty days. Enter Jay, her very attractive neighbor who seems hellbent on making sure she leaves ASAP. It wouldn’t be so bad if she isn’t finding the attraction getting stronger and stronger and not just for the farm but also for her neighbor. The Burbs and the Bees is a fun romp between total opposites. This one is guaranteed to make you smile.

The Burbs and the Bees by Cathryn Fox
A really cute story! I had some laugh out loud moments from this story. The author really laid out a nice read, one that keeps you involved in the story and keeps you wanting to read on and not do anything else. I was totally engrossed. I learned some things I never knew through the story line also! The description of the book is laid out below, as found on NetGalley.com.

I received the book in the kindle format through NetGalley.com My opinion and thoughts on the book are entirely my own and freely given.

Description as found on NetGalley.com:
I just inherited an apple orchard in Nova Scotia.

That’s definitely a sentence I never would have imagined saying in my life.

I’ve only ever been a socialite from New York, but that orchard is my chance to prove to my family, and myself, that I can do more. Be more. I may not exactly know what I want out of life yet, but I’m determined to stick to something—and no, I’m not talking about the bee farmer next door.

Here’s what I know. If I can’t tough out one full month of a rooster waking me at sunrise, a poolhall parrot with a foul mouth, and a llama that swings both ways, not only will I lose my self-respect, I’ll lose my trust fund too.

Here’s what I don’t know. Why my neighbor with the bad attitude and a whole lot of sexy seems hell bent on sending me home. Well screw him. Not literally, of course. Except I just stumbled into his apiary, and got a look at the head beekeepers…stinger.

There is plenty of sass and sizzle in Cathryn Fox’s fun and flirty romantic comedy, The Burbs and The Bees.

New York socialite Alyson never imagined that she would leave the hustle and bustle of the big city behind for an apple orchard in Nova Scotia. But with her father having put her trust fund in jeopardy, Alyson had no other option but to prove to her family and herself that she wasn’t the flighty fashionista everyone thought she was. Sure, she does not know the first thing about farming and doesn’t have the appropriate footwear, but she will show everyone that she can stick to something for longer than a month and that she can make a go of things in Nova Scotia – even if she has barely set foot in Canada and she finds herself having to be fished out of the ocean by gorgeous hunk Jay who looks like he has just stepped out of one of her most explicit fantasies.

Alyson is used to glitzy parties and fashion shows, so she is way out of her depth in Nova Scotia. But she has no other alternative but to roll up her sleeves and make the apple orchard a success – even if it means having to put up with a rooster waking her up at all hours, a parrot with a foul mouth and even fouler temper and a llama who swings both ways. Not to mention the sexy bee farmer next door who is making her temperature skyrocket through the roof. Still, Alyson cannot allow anything or anyone to distract her from her quest to restore the fortunes of the apple orchard – not even her hunky next door neighbor.

Not that he has exactly put out the red carpet for her. But even though he drives her absolutely insane, Alyson cannot be help but be drawn to him. Has Alyson found a reason to stick around? Even when her one month is up? Or will she hightail back to New York in four weeks’ time?

Cathryn Fox certainly knows how to turn up the heat with her smart, funny and delicious new novel, The Burbs and the Bees. Sparkling with humor, emotion and sensuality, Cathryn Fox’s The Burbs and the Bees is packed with zingy banter, red-hot chemistry, steamy romance and plenty of sigh-worthy moments that will keep readers absolutely glued to the book’s pages.

Written with flair, brio and style, The Burbs and the Bees is a compelling page-turner about stepping out of your comfort zone, forbidden attraction and falling head over heels in love when you least expect it that is sure to brighten up anyone’s day.

Alyson is a New York socialite, but she's just inherited an orchard and farm in Nova Scotia, and she has a point to prove with her family (and maybe with herself as well). She bet her father her trust fund that she could stick out life on the farm for at least a month. But her father isn't the only one who doesn't think she'll last the month, and there are a few people that have a lot to gain if she doesn't.

Enter Jayden Andrews (Jay to his friends). The two share a near-death experience, which is a hell of a way to meet your hot neighbor.

I didn't love Alyson at first, thinking she really was just a spoiled city brat, but I warmed up to her as the story went on. I pretty much loved Jay from the start. I do love a gruff exterior with a marshmallow center.

What's your favorite romance trope? Enemies to lovers, forced proximity, from different worlds? If so, this book has you covered. And it could hardly be life on the farm without a swarm of bees, an overly friendly llama, pigs named Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, a guard-rooster named Cluck Norris, a lonely cow, a bar-room rescue parrot with a filthy mouth, and a skunk on the loose. What could possibly go wrong?!

I can’t say much more without giving anything away, so you’re just going to have to read it for yourself.

Light and humorous, The Burbs and the Bees is effortlessly entertaining from the first page. The story is set on in the farming village of Peggy’s Cove in Nova Scotia and is told through the eyes of Alyson Reid and Jayden Andrews, Jay to his friends. I loved the attraction between these two but equally I loved the conflict author Cathryn Fox has set up for them. The secondary characters in this book, both human and animal, also added to my enjoyment. I loved the names Alyson’s uncle had given to his flock - Cluck Norris the rooster, Barrack O’Llama, one of the llamas, and piglets Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner to name just a few. Jay’s seventeen year old brother Tyler was a particular favourite with his smart mouth and witty comebacks. The sense of community you get from this book is another positive. The way Tyler’s family stepped up time and time again to help Alyson cope with one thing after another really impressed me. I am sad to have finished this story because reading it has made me feel so good. I’ve laughed, I’ve cried a little and I’ve sighed. This one is a keeper.

Fabulous. Alyson is full of surprises but what I love best is her determination and strength even when she doubts herself. She is floundering, not really sure what she wants to do with her life and struggling to make a commitment. When she suddenly inherits a farm from an Uncle she never knew, well, she takes this as a challenge to see if she can run the farm. Meeting Jay, the farmer from next door, happens in a funny and frightening way but sets off a great connection between the two. Jay always knew he would be a farmer and is passionate about what he does. Helping the new owner next door is just part of daily life and having it be Alyson does crazy things to his heart. Of course, he really doesn’t expect a city girl to last on the farm and makes a rash decision. As Alyson works to learn all she can to run the farm, Jay is right there to support her and these two find that they have more in common than they realize. But what happens when Alyson finds out Jay doubted her? This was a wonderful story and I had fun experiencing farm life through Alyson’s eyes. Jay and his brothers are great teachers for her as Alyson not only finds a purpose, but she also finds a family. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

The Burbs and the Bees is a new standalone romantic comedy by Cathryn Fox. Set in a small town in Nova Scotia, this delightful story brings all the feels.

Alyson has just inherited an apple orchard and a few animals from a relative she never knew she had. Jay is a young farmer fighting to grow his family’s business and educate his community about sustainable living while he’s at it. From their first rocky meeting, sparks fly between our hero and heroine. When trouble finds them, who will win and who will lose?

NICUnurse’s Rating: I haven’t read but a few books by Cathryn Fox, but the ones I have read I’ve really enjoyed. And this one stays true to that statement. Alyson may be searching for her passion, and she may be feeling beat down by some current life choices, but she’s no pushover. She’s feisty and stubborn and unwavering in her desire to show her parents–and the world–that she’s so much more just a flighty socialite. Jay’s been burned by a city girl in the past, but there’s something different about Alyson that he just can’t ignore. Be ready for some very emotionally charged scenes, some hilarious laugh out loud moments, and an all-around enjoyable time–complete with a touch of suspense woven throughout the story. And a very heartwarming ending that will leave you with all the feels.

I give The Burbs and the Bees by Cathryn Fox 4.5 out of 5 stars!

How do you like them apples (and bees)?

Sometimes you need a bit of a guilty pleasure and The Burbs and the Bees definitely fall into that category for me. How much did I adore that it was set in Nova Scotia? So much, on an apple orchard no less. With a bee keeper next door, makes for a quirky, fun read. Alyson is the fish out of water, Jay the local and neighbor.
A bit of sizzle to go along with them apples and bees.
Recommend.

This story is super hilarious. Do not drink anything while you are reading or you will be snorting fluids through your nose. It involves a great cast of human and animal characters that say the darndest things. On their first meeting Jay and Alyson end up in the freezing ocean and that set the pace for all the other hilarious incidents that would happen between them. Coupled with meddling younger brothers and wild animal antics it is a page turning delight to the happy ending.

I was absolutely giddy when I received this book. This is only the second by Cathryn Fox that I've read I fell in love with Hooked On You and am so happy for the return to the northeast coast of Nova Scotia, where we meet city girl Alyson Reid and farm boy Jay Andrews. They have an unusual meet-cute as Jay knocks Alyson in the freezing waters of Peggy's Cove.

Readers are swept along as new, short-term neighbors Jay and Alyson get better acquainted. While they can't help getting caught up in and getting caught staring at each other, they begin to develop a tentative friendship and to foster the growing connection. Confident she won't be around for long, he allows the chemistry between them to take root. And Alyson has much to prove to her family, but mostly to herself. I loved Alyson's can do anything spirit and her way of finding out how to do it - we all use Google this way. The farm and the animals bring out something to be admired, and Jay does love to "admire" her.

There is a bit of drama as her inherited farm is coveted by local developer, and Jay has two distinct reasons he "thinks" he doesn't want to to stay - a bet for land and a fear that her city girl upbringing made her happy - when in fact she finds much happiness on the farm.

This light hearted read was exactly what I needed. I read it in one evening and went to bed feeling happy. Fox's writing ensures for a few great moments of fun; with antics on the farm, witty dialogue, and the overt flirting between Alyson and Jay. And oh - the naming of the animals. 4.5 Stars and recommendation.

I loved this fun and quirky city gal/farmer boy romance from one of my go-to authors! Alyson and Jay were complete opposites in almost every way at the start of their wet and wild introduction, but deep dow, they’re more alike then they think.
I adored Alyson’s plucky, can-do...or at least, try to do...attitude, which she needs in spades when she lays her eyes on her inheritance. The girl doesn’t stick with much, and now she’s learning to milk cows and run a farmstand. Jay is a hardworking, gorgeous, small town guy, but he’s much more than just a farmer. He’s a great big brother, a loyal friend and embraces sustainable living.
The burn was slow but when it finally ignited, it was super-nova hot. Alyson begins to fit into all areas of Jay’s life, his family included, but can they overcome both their differences as well as a secret or two. Add in a bit of suspense and I couldn’t put this book down!
Taking place in Nova Scotia, a place I’ve long wanted to visit, the setting adds another layer to this rich, engaging story. Cathryn Fox definitely penned another winner with The Burbs and the Bees...appropriately titled, as well!

Cathryn Fox is one of my go-to authors and her latest book, The Burbs and the Bees, is a delightful addition to her repertoire. As with all of Ms. Fox's books, this is a smartly written romance with a cast of well-conceived characters. This story has the added bonus of some very unique farm animals. The two that come to mind are Capone the parrot and Cluck the rooster. Capone is quite verbal and Cluck is larger than life.

Alyson had a privileged New York City upbringing. Now she is in Nova Scotia, the new owner of a farm, a farm-stand, and a petting zoo. She knows nothing about rural living, and her late uncle that she never knew existed, bequeathed his legacy to her. Luckily, her neighbor Jay is able to lend her a helping hand. Overtime, their friendship evolves into much more.

I truly enjoyed this sexy story and the there were quite a few laugh-out-loud moments. Alyson's determination to keep her uncle's business going was easy to identify with. Jay's kindness and willingness to help, while he dealt with his own personal demons was inspiring. I am hopeful Jay's two brothers will get their own story.

From the moment I picked it up to the time I finished, The Burbs and the Bees had me captivated! Laughing at the antics of a "watchdog" rooster, a foul-mouthed parrot and brothers that had way too much time on their hands, I was fascinated by the scenes Cathryn Fox created. The steamy, off the charts attraction Alyson and Jay had for each other from the moment they met kept me captivated. If you're looking for a great rom-com filled with love of family and support through difficult times, The Burbs and the Bees is the perfect remedy.

Thank you Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for providing an arc of this hilarious book. My review is unbiased and completely my own!

Alyson is determined to prove her parents wrong and show them that she can manage the apple orchard she inherited however she may have the drive, but the lack of experience could be downfall. Even though she doesn’t get off to a good start with her sexy neighbor he always seems to be there when she needs someone the most.

Jay and his family own the neighboring honey farm and he is drawn to her in spite of himself. He knows that leaving her to fend for herself would be the wisest choice but there is something about her and the way she makes him feel that makes walking away more difficult every day.

The interactions between them are humorous and hot and it was so much fun watching the relationship develop between them.

I absolutely adore fish out of water stories. I would say Alyson, a city girl, is definitely a fish out water when she inherits her Great Uncle's farm in Nova Scotia. I was so excited to be able to read this story. Alyson is determined to put in hard work on the farm in order to ensure she doesn't lose her inheritance. The chemistry between Alyson and Jay was off the charts sexy. From start to finish this book kept me smiling, intrigued and wanting more from Cathryn Fox.
