The Burbs and the Bees by Cathryn Fox follows Alyson Reid who is heading north from New York to a farm and apple orchard in Nova Scotia that she unexpectedly inherited from an uncle she never knew existed. Desperate to prove to her parents that she can see something through to the end, Alyson plans to stay for thirty days and not any longer. That is until she comes to realize how satisfying a hard day of work on a farm can be and how good it feels to fall into bed after. Plus there’s the ridiculously attractive and witty honey farmer named Jay that lives next door. It’s a thoroughly new way of life but maybe it’s just what she needs.

This sweet-as-honey book is about finding yourself and where you fit in the world. I really enjoyed the dual points of view of Alyson and Jay, giving us a view into both of their minds as their affection for one another grew. The storyline was a lot of fun and the side characters brought some good laughs, especially Cluck Norris.

I’m not giving this a full five stars because I felt the end was a little rushed and the cover doesn’t exactly match the story within. Other than that, this was a great, light read. It was funny and steamy in all the right places.

I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book from Netgalley and the author in exchange for an honest review.

I don't typically enjoy reading purely romantic fiction as I usually find the writing a bit cloying, but I was pleasantly surprised by this novel. The story line was fun, within in the realm of reality, and had enough plot points to keep me interested in what would happen next.

Alyson Reid suddenly finds herself as the unexpected beneficiary of a apple orchard in Nova Scotia. Desperate to prove to her family that she can in fact commit to something, she heads north from New York into an entirely new way of life. That new life comes with an attractive neighbor, Jay. Typically, the two spend the novel dancing around their attraction for each other until there is a a misunderstanding they have to overcome.

The Burbs and the Bees is a typical romance novel pretty equivalent to Hallmark movie with a few naughty bits thrown in, and sometimes that just the kind of escapism you need.

A sweet and funny book about finding yourself and where you fit. I liked that we got both Alyson and Jay's point of view as I feel it added to the story.
