I didn't finish this book. It has a lot of information about dieting but the way the app works (by using psychology) just simulates eating disorders. It's like the worst tech version of Weight Watchers.

I've followed Noom before, and this book was a solid description of the Noom mindset. Well written from a diet book perspective and informative.

It was a Library patron that had requested this book for the library. I saw that it was available on NetGalley and decided to get a sneak preview. As someone who has struggled with my weight my whole life, I gained a lot of truly valuable insight with this book. I can't wait to get it for my patrons and I hope they find it as eye-opening as I did.

Whether you are following their program or not, this book gives good tips about how to alter your habits instead of cutting x or adding y to your diet. We don't always eat just because we are hungry. We eat because we are bored or sad or excited. Noom is connecting psychology and eating, and offers tactics to turn things around.

This book was a great overview of the Noom program. It focuses on the psychology of weight loss. If the Noom program is something you are interested in (I am not), then this book would be a good read.

Thank you Net Galley for a copy of The Noom Mindset. Noom has been widely known as the diet that is based on psychology. This book was great. So great that I signed up for a year! And I love it.

The Noom Mindset is a helpful resource book that provides at times a winded and repetitive and in depth look than the app. It is just as the title says - the process of changing your mindset. There's nothing new or groundbreaking here, but the information is provided in a way that's easy to read and understand. It's the kind of thing that would be good to read as a reminder every year.
While I think the app users will love this book it’s just not for everyone.

I would like to thank the authors, NetGalley and Simon Element, S&S for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Being already familiar with Noom, I can't recommend this book enough. It really gets you out of a toxic mindset about food and eating. Instead of giving you a fad diet to follow, you actually dive into the psychology of eating and what causes issues like binging. Noom makes you responsible for whether you succeed or not at weight loss and weight maintenance. The app provides a little more accountability, but otherwise you can access all the major tools in the book to change your lifestyle.

The Noom Mindset is not a diet book , rather it is a primer on the mental mindset pieces needed to attain a healthy body and of course it's tied back to how Noom implements these pieces. I thought it was a fairly interesting read and think others will too.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I've tried the Noom app and found it frustrating -- I may try it again now that I've read The Noom Mindset. This book explains the psychology behind the app in easy-to-read, accessible terms. It covers setting achievable goals, external and internal motivation, and how to change or work with one's existing environment to better the odds of reaching those goals.

Interesting explanation and background of the Noom diet. A lot of psychology, tips and advice. I have not followed the Noon plan so I’m on sure of how much of this would be what you would get if you signed up for their weight loss program but it does seem like it has good information with a guide to help you

The Noom Mindset definitely feels much different than other diet books I’ve read in the past. And it’s right there in the title: it’s all about mindset, not just about weight loss but about understanding your eating habits. There’s a lot of info packed in this book so I’d suggest taking your time and read it slowly to avoid serious information overload, especially because as I said it’s much different from your typical diet book, offering a unique approach to weight loss. Thanks so much to Simon Element and NetGalley for the ARC

The Noom Mindset isn't a diet book, which I thought that was what it was. It is about Mindset and the way our brain talks to us, because of what we learned and was taught. This book guides us through the process of how to change our mindset, or change what our brain is telling us. This wasn't new info for me because I had used it to quit smoking, but I never used it for any of the other struggles in my life. This book, helped me realize that it could help me in my struggles with weight. To me, food was something you had to have in order to survive. As I read the book, I have learned about all the diets, the foods that are best to eat to lose weight, which foods you should eat carbs, protein, fat, and it just became a mess. This book helped me straighten out all the jumble of information that I had put in my brain, and none of it made sense. Reading the book and putting into practice what I was learning, helped me to figure some things out, which helped me start changing my mindset. I worried it was going to be just one more thing to add to the pile of info I had put into my brain. It isn't that way because my brain says this is a tool that will help me, reach my goal of where I want to be. That is a huge step for me, because this is becoming part of my journey to be the best me I can be. It isn't trying to live up to what someone else wants me to do, or has to be done now, and I keep the book handy because when I am struggling or get discouraged, I pick up the book and I can remember it is part of my journey, and I no longer sabotage myself, because I believe I was going to fail any way. It isn't Noom telling me what I am going to have to do, it is Noom letting me know that habits are hard to break, so be proud of what I have achieved, and to think about how the thoughts of my brain has changed. I think the book will help me to get where I want to go because, I am not doing what someone else is telling me, I am learning a new way of thinking about the reason why I want to do what I am doing, and I pay attention to what my old habits are saying to me to get me to go back to the way I was.
I knew about Noom, but I am not an app's person, reading a book has always helped me make sense of things, so I was happy they came out with this book. This book reminds me that in order to change my old habits, I have to change my mindset, and once I change my mindset, then it will be easier to live the way I want for the rest of my life.
I received an ARC from S&S/Simon Element through NetGalley and I have it electronically, but I think it is so helpful I bought the book to hold. Habits are hard to break, and I like the feel of holding a book.

First and foremost, The Noom Mindset should probably not be called a diet book. Yes, hopefully it will help you lose weight (after all the subtitle for the book is ‘Learn the Science, Lose the Weight’ ) but the principles in the book seem like they can be applied to more aspects of your life than just your weight. I honestly think most people will skip over the opening section of the book, and I won’t blame. While the information how on how the Noom company came to be is certainly interesting, I think most people are going to want to dive into the science of Noom that will help them understand why they’re doing what they’re doing, making goals, and mastering motivation. I’m just getting into myself so I have no major results to report. That being said, as I was reading this I thought of one of my friends who I haven’t seen in a while but has battled weight most of her life and is always looking for something new to try. (As many of us do.) And she laughed when I said she might want to pick up the book when it releases. She said she’d been using the Noom app for the last two and has already lost about 30 lbs. Needless to say I’m thrilled for her and her success has me hopeful I might see similar results. Of course with any type of self help book you'll only get out it what you're willing to put in to it. I’d like to thank Simon Element (an imprint of Simon and Schuster) and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an eARC of The Noom Mindset.

Whether you are familiar with Noom or not, The Noom Mindset is a user-friendly guide to the psychology behind the popular weight-loss app. It is a very easy reading, thorough explanation of the hows and whys of setting and reaching goals, particularly in terms of personal health. Readers will leave the experience with a greater understanding of personal motivation and how to tweak their own environment to better their chances of success, whatever their health goals may be.

I found the book interesting and even though I have a fairly thorough understanding of psychology and behavior change, the information was presented in a way that was not repetitive or boring, at all. For readers that want to go more deeply, the book includes numerous footnotes with reference to the original study publication. For those without a psychological background, the authors have explained concepts in easy to understand language, and give relevant examples often.

Although I received a digital copy, I will likely purchase a hard copy, to use as a reference for my personal health journey. It is that good!

Thank you to Netgalley and S&S/Simon Element for the digital ARC of The Noom Mindset. The opinions in this review are my own.

First I'd like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced reader's copy of this publication.
I already have the Noom app, and find it to be pretty helpful with diet/self-help/habit forming. Noom is all about a change in mindset rather than an overhaul of your whole diet, that most likely will result in weight loss.
While the book is described to be a more in-depth look than the app, I don't believe it actually is that much more in-depth, but rather more winded and repetitive. It does get into some other subjects like the owners and their why but I don't know that hearing those stories really made me feel anything more or different. Overall I give this book a 3 out of 5. It's helpful but I would skip the book and use the app instead.

This is a useful book that provides a concise overview of the process of changing mindset and habits. There's nothing new or groundbreaking here, but the information is provided in a way that's easy to read and understand. It's the kind of thing that would be good to read as a reminder every year.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

I really liked this approach to weight loss. Using the psychology instead of just giving you rules is way more helpful. It did feel rather redundant and that the same thing was repeated over and over in each chapter.

There’s a lot of helpful tools in The Noom Mindset. Although it seems like it’s solely for weight loss there is more to it than just what to eat or how much to exercise- spoiler alert this isn’t a diet plan. There are suggestions to eat more of certain foods sure but never does Noom say you can’t eat anything. It’s more of the why of things and creating habits that benefit you. Highly recommend!!
