I enjoyed some of the activities and found them to be quite helpful while others I just found to be somewhat reworded repeats of others in the book already. Feels like a mix between a journal prompt book and a very tame wreck it journal. Do I feel it helped my anxiety though?… not really. It felt more like an activity book. I’m starting to think maybe these types of self help books would be better suited if done along with a therapist. OR maybe they just aren’t for me.

If you know me personally, then you know I have struggled with anxieties all of my life, and constantly welcome new methods of trying to wrangle those intrusive thoughts and emotions. So far this book has caused me to think deeply, ask some hard questions, and gave me a mental break from overthinking.

As a mental health nurse I was curious to read this book to learn some activities that I can try with my anxious patients.

Answer these questions:
I appreciated the beautiful simplicity of this workbook and I did find that certain pages helped me reframe my anxiety at times. Unlike other similar books, I liked how there were a variety of different journaling and/or reflection prompts and styles and that the book does not have to be gone through chronologically. The

I very much enjoyed this prompt book - having anxiety is not ideal, and this book provided many ways to help alleviate the stressors that happen in our lives. I did not complete every single prompt, but I did read through them all and I was very impressed with some of the questions asked. Looking forward to buying this when it comes out!

As someone who has used a handful of guided journals, I definitely enjoyed Put Your Anxiety Here. This self-guided journal takes you through various exercises to help clear your mind from any anxieties or worries, and helps you to acknowledge your fears in a productive and creative way.
The structure of the book was nice, and I appreciate the notes to be creative and let your imagination flow throughout the journal. I am the type of person that hates to write sloppily or waste a page, and it felt comforting to have the reminder to let my creative self out without any worries about ruining the journal.

I'd like to add that I appreciate that at the start of the journal, the author mentions that the methods and activities are based on real clinical anxiety management theory. I think it helps give a reader a sense of trust in what they are completing.

Thank you to NetGalley, New Harbinger Publications, and Lisa M. Schab for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

"Put Your Anxiety Here" is an engaging journal with a wide variety of prompts and drawing exercises that are not complicated (no barrier to entry). As I read through the pages I could easily visualize myself being motivated to complete several pages at a time because it is so inviting. I do not normally use journals with prompts but the topic, imagery, and the structure of this book drew me in.

It's a nice guided journal, and I liked how some of the activities were more creative in nature than many self-help ones are. I think it could be a good starting point for people who have not journaled much and are looking for a place to start.

No secret how I feel about self help books, I think they just rehash well known facts in a more structured way. That said, I know that the way the book is structured, and the way the information is presented, can make a big difference to the reader. This book talks of techniques that are all things you can find online, but nothing that you won't already know. I lean towards the negative on this.

Put Your Anxiety Here is a wonderful guided journal to help you through your anxiety and really anything that’s bothering you. The prompts are fun and creative. The book is whimsical, which really makes you want to set aside time to use it. The book is written by a psychotherapist so you know that this guided journal is rooted in evidence-based therapy exercises. Love this!

I have mixed feelings about these kinds of books. On the one hand, I think they can offer some handy activities for the reader. On the other hand, I see a lot of books for sale that are essentially, "the reader writes it for you" as a passive income stream. It doesn't mean the book won't help you, it just don't know how I feel about them. At the moment, it leans more towards the negative.
