Super cute book! I'm already a big fan of cryptids but my son enjoyed having me read this to him more than once! Sweet and uplifting.
This story was not at all what I expected. Mikey's story is definitely unique for a bigfoot. I enjoyed the use of numbers throughout the story, but it was a little short-lived, and I would've liked it more. I also was really encouraged to see different cultures represented. However, I felt the story was a little long for a picture book. I would recommend it for older elementary ages as opposed to early elementary.
Did you know that there are Bigfoot schools around the world that teach important skills for forest management and bear wrestling? Really? Mikey, a Bigfoot himself, is different from his peers. He is struggling to find his unique place in the world and how he fits in.
He attends an accounting class and that opens up a whole new world to him where he does belong. This is a book of discovery, following your dreams, and acceptance. I did find it quite wordy but the illustration are beautifully done and really highlight the text's inspiring message. I happily recommend this book.
"Mikey the Lonely Bigfoot" is a heartwarming story about Mikey, a Bigfoot who likes numbers and accounting! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story, and think it has a great message about being different and learning how to stand up for yourself and your community.
This has to be the sweetest book I have read this year. I think everyone needs to read this book even adults. I think we can all learn something from this book. There is a place in the world for everyone. I teared up at the end of the book with all the bigfeet coming together to help.
Thank you Netgalley for letting me read and review this. I will be telling everyone I know to read this.
A cute book. Loved the illustrations too and the fact that Mikey was “different”. My only “con” is that it felt like it could’ve been 2 short stories instead of one longer story. What is the climax of the story? Mikey struggling to find a job or the fire? Also a typo or two is still in but I’m sure that will be corrected before publishing as well.
This is a cute, if not a bit wordy, book about a Bigfoot finding where he belongs in this world. The illustrations are cute but I wouldn't read this with my almost-3-year-old son as there are too many words and he would quickly lose interest. I definitely think this would be geared for 4-6 year olds.
The illustrations are beautiful! However, I am not sure who this book is a good fit for. It is marketed as a children's fiction book, but it is a bit wordy and long for young kids. I had high hopes for this book because I love the story of Sasquatch and find it fascinating! This book has such beautiful and colorful pictures, but it would be hard for a kid to follow on his or her own. It may be better if a parent, teacher or adult read with younger kids. The book has potential but was boggled down with a bit too much text; however, the story is refreshing to see and hear a bigfoot's perspective of the world around him and how he maneuvers through. The beautiful illustration adds tremendously to the storytelling in this book, especially with the text being so lengthy for a young reader.
There are not many Sasquatch stories out there; therefore, when one comes around it should be engaging and spark the reader's interest so that they will want to find out more about the history, stories and myths about Sasquatch.! I think coupled with the beautiful illustrations this book could be a good read for older kids or read by the librarian doing specials. I truly hope to see more Sasquatch stories out there! I did enjoy this read! The beautiful illustrations add to the stars in this rating.!
A cute book about finding where you belong. Mikey the Bigfoot doesn't feel like he fits in with the other bigfeet. When he joins an accounting class he begins a journey to find where he belongs in the world. A twisting, turning path leads Mikey to exactly where he wants to be. The illustrations are delightful, but story is a little long and some pages are very wordy.
A cute book about Mikey the Bigfoot who just wants to find his place in life. There were a lot more words than I was expecting in this book so I'd recommend it either as a story book to read to kids or for slightly higher reading levels (not starting out).
