Kawaii Doggies is a fun and easy to follow book with so many different dog breeds, positions, and expressions to choose from. The author breaks down the steps in a way that is easy to follow and not overwhelming for the novice, such as myself. My teen daughters have always enjoyed hot-to-draw books, and as kawaii enthusiasts, this was a perfect Saturday morning activity for us to do together. As a newbie to kawaii, I appreciated the authors information about the art form and recommended drawing tools, while my more experienced daughters utilized the expression directory.

This drawing instruction manual is clear and has easy to follow exercises to practice drawing. It also provides different "tutorials" such as expression, or breed and colour. Mixed in with the authors own fun illustrations and captions (my favourite was the puppy yoga!) it is beautifully done.

These Kawaii doggies are very cute - in fact that is what the Japanese translate the word as. There are many breeds of dogs in this book and many posses to put them in, all carefully drawn with step by step instructions. They are very cute. Thanks you NetGalley and the publishers for the DRC

This book is absolutely adorable! I was surprised by how many useful diagrams it included, even showing how to draw different facial expressions, different poses, etc. It's a great guide to drawing cute pups and I loved it. My only criticism is that it doesn't do much to help you figure out how to color in the different breeds' fur patterns. I find that intimidating, so it would have been helpful. But other than that, it's a great book and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes to draw.

Kawaii Doggies is absolutely adorable. Every chapter just kept getting better. They are easy enough to follow that even I could make something that looked close.

Such a cute book! I've adored the other titles this author has released and this is a long time request from many fans. I am sure all of them will absolutely adore this book and will devour it with the ferocity as they do the others.

Kawaii Dogs is (you guessed it!) CUTE! Olive gives easy to follow instructions in simple form. She makes it easy to learn the basics and then she takes it a step further by giving you the instructions of how to transform your basic characters. This is the perfect learn to draw book for any aspiring artist that loves dogs or all things kawaii!

A sweet and easy to follow drawing book perfect for my 9-year-old daughter. This teaches you step by step how to draw different breeds in a kawaii style. My daughter loves this style of book and has had a great time so far learning to draw different types of dog. A definite hit for dog and art loving youngsters.

This book is adorable and great for adults and kids. It has a good amount of dog breeds and the instructions on how to draw draw them are easy to follow. I was also extremely happy to see that there was also a book on how to draw Kawaii Kitties by the same author. It immediately went in my Amazon cart.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Rock Point, this eARC was provided to me in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Kawaii Doggies is a step-by-step tutorial guide on how to draw chibi-like cute dogs doing various activities from the author of bichi.mao and pipandbun.

As an instructional book meant to have the reader draw dogs, well, I did draw some dogs, whether those are “good” dogs that follow the style guidelines, that’s debatable, but the book achieved an attempt at least and that's the goal!

I liked the color chart provided and I think for digital artists who work in a medium that can pick up and save colors, it's probably quite helpful.

Beyond just the dog breeds which compose the bulk of the book, I thought the section turning the dogs into food products was amusing ( dog burger! dog hotdog! dog cookies!? ) and would appeal to people who like some humour to their art.

My largest criticism is I wish there was a section on proportion and how the “structure” under the dogs works/connects. In almost all examples, Yong starts the tutorials with the ears first. Maybe I could get this process to work with additional practice, but while working on this review I couldn’t. So I tended to draw an underlying circle and figural lines for the head first, then go back to the ears, so their heads would connect to their bodies.

There is a portrait section near the end I think could have been better served being placed nearer to the front of the book, as this is the only section that has "guiding lines" or “figural lines” for the drawings.

Still, I would recommend this book as a gift to young children who like to draw, people interested in the kawaii style, or fans of the author’s comics.

Social media review is tentatively scheduled to post March 16, @lunacorvidea on Instagram.

This was a super cute doodling book that really helped bring that recognisable "kawaii" feel to some of my scribbles. I'm not much of an artist at all, but I do like to doodle, so these sorts of step-by-step art books help me practice a bit of creativity.

I love the formatting and colour palette of the book - it feels vibrant and easy to follow, and I'm sure would be loved by other art-y adults as well as kids. Each part is laid out clearly and gives you tips & tricks to get the right shape for each feature.

It's fun to work through on the ARC version anyway, but I imagine the hard copy will be great to draw in (if you're brave enough - I never am!) so makes a perfect interactive gift :) I'd be happy to see more in this series, as other animals or characters would be fab!

Kawaii Doggies : Learn to Draw over 100 Adorable Pups in All their Glory is a cute and basic drawing book, aimed mainly at young children and doodling adults. It is aimed at a bit of fun rather than improving your drawing skills. The book is fully illustrated and instructions are easy to follow

I chose to review this book because of the cuteness of the cover and because I love dogs. I didn’t really know what to expect because it’s been years (decades) since I’ve used a how to draw book. If I could learn how to draw dogs as cute as the ones on the cover, I’d be set for life.

The book has almost every dog you can imagine. Pages of them. Then there are pages of puppies. Then pages of dogs as food and dogs in costumes. What’s really cool is that there are examples of how parts of each dog (like their ears and tails) can be customized. I love how there are full color examples of fur and markings as well as blank coloring pages at the end.

I felt like the only way I could properly review a “how to draw” book is if I drew the dogs according to the instructions. It didn’t go too well, but at least I got a good laugh. I think it will take a lot of practice. The most difficult part is the proportions and getting the faces right. I think that having a physical copy of the book would be beneficial because then I would be able to trace and practice that way. I’m pretty proud of myself. I love the chonky, ill-proportioned, weird dogs that I made. The only change I would make is to have some sort of graph/scale for each image, that way I would know how big to make each part with each step. I also know that I’m probably not the age demographic for this book, but I still had a ton of fun with it. Five stars!

Perfect for my ten year old. Even I had fun drawing the dogs with her. Some of them started to look very similar which is why I gave it a lower rating.
My five year old did have trouble with some of them so I would say this is perfect for age 7+ abilities.
