Cute and simple. Easy to follow with basic instructions. Probably a good starting point, but by no means instructions that will help your skills get past much more than basic. This will be great for my sons to learn how to draw some simple kawaii pups!

I am very familiar with Kawaii cats but this is my first foray into dogs. A cute little book that will appeal to puppy lovers, cute things and drawings. Great instructions are found here.
Absolutely adorable!

This is a cute drawing book! I don’t know that it will improve my skills because I’m not very artistic but it’s a cute idea and I could see kids really enjoying the little dog drawings.

Kawaii Doggies~Learn to Draw over 100 Adorable Pups in All their Glory
2.5 Stars

I've enjoyed reading several books from the Learn to Draw over 100 series. I typically love them. However, from the beginning, Kawaii Doggies' layout is different from other art books I've read. This artist breaks the doggo's into pieces:ears, tail & faces. There are step-by-step directions with picture instructions. I typically draw using shapes. They move onto breeds, cute poses, puppies, and foods. The illustrations are cute, but didn't inspire them like other books in this series.

I was a little surprised that even the tools and materials section was skimpy, and it was a preview of what's to come. I'm unsatisfied with the variety of dogs to create. The dogs lacked clear character design and personality. Thus making all the dogs all look alike. The color palette didn't help. Even the breeds were not distinct enough. All in all, I wouldn't recommend this book. I've seen several similar ones that cover the material better.

Note: This book was created digitally. We don't see an artist drawing anything. All the drawings are perfect. How to draw books is typically for beginners, children and teens. I'd recommend explaining that all the illustrations within are perfect, because they were created digitally. So, please don't compare yourself.

Thank you, NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group, for providing an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Totally Kawaii! Easy step by step tutorials made drawing these cuties relaxing. My kids even joined in for a few. I hope to see more from the author. Maybe kitties?

Kawaii Doggies by Olive Yong is a book that is sure to delight any pet lover and artist. This delightful collection of pup-themed illustrations and tutorials captures the adorable personalities of our furry friends. The book includes easy-to-follow tutorials for drawing popular breeds such as the jack russell terrier, pug, golden retriever, corgi, and many, many more.

Not only that, but there are also tutorials for drawing doggies as food items, such as "doggy macarons, cupcakes, and doggy cheeseburgers."

The illustrations in this book are amazing - with every page filled with cuteness overload. The instructions are clear and easy to understand, making it perfect even for beginners. What’s more, Olive Yong’s cheerful style will make you want to immerse yourself in this world of dogs.

Kawaii Doggies is essential for anyone who loves to draw and wants to explore their craft further. Highly recommended!

Kawaii Doggies by Olive Yong is a very cute book that teaches you how to draw dogs in the author's artstyle. I personally enjoyed the section where the animals were part-food the most. The section for facial expressions was very helpful. I have been trying to learn to illustrate animals better for a project and I stumbled across this book. It definitely helped me. I think I would have loved to have this book in middle school, I would have been obsessed with it. All in all, very cute, definitely recommend for those who want to branch out on their art style.

Super adorable book with the cutest doggos ever! This book features chubby pups doing all kinds of fun things, with easy instructions on how to draw the different breeds from different angles. Had fun practicing on the beagles and corgis especially. This is a great book for beginners who are looking to develop their skills.

This one is just plain ol' fun. Puppies and doggies to draw in all sorts of positions, not to mention costumes. True, maybe because my dog is a "dress me up and you will die" kinda dog, I wasn't fond of those but, hey, to each their own. I liked that the author showed how to do different positions, activities, and even things like from the front and rear. Toss in some printed drawings to color and, well, it was just plain ol' fun.

Although I didn't try every suggestion or breed type, the directions were clear and step-by-step. That should be helpful to the more artistically challenged out there. As you gain confidence, you can certainly improvise, too, which is how I created a cute rendering of my own floppy-eared corgi mix.The section on facial expressions was especially helpful, I thought, as all too often such books don't delve into that or different moods. Although, quite frankly, many of the supposed different breeds looked very similar to me, including not seeing much differentiation in the puppy art, color and markings helped with the differentiation.

By the way, the former teacher in me came out and I simply had to look up the meaning of kawaii. While it's usually interpreted to mean "cute", it has a broader meaning to those who speak the language. In this case, it focuses on the Japanese art style that emphasizes cuteness and uses bright colors and a rather simple, even childlike look. It can also mean something that is lovable, hence it can describe many things. Okay, enough teacher talk from me. If you like to draw cute critters or even if you want to draw but struggle, this book should be of benefit.

Thanks #NetGalley and #QuartoPublishingGroup - #RockPoint for giving me an excuse to flex some of my artsy skills again, using my own too kawaii doggie as model.

A very gorgeous book! I will continue to have lots of fun making the cutest dogs known to man! The possibilities are quite endless and only limited by your own imagination and abilities. This is fun for any age group. My daughter is having fun colouring them in.

Kawaii Doggies is a step by step on drawing these cute little roly poly dogs. The first few pages show you how to draw different types of tails, facial expressions, leg/body/ear shapes. I don't think some of these dog breeds actually look accurate but it's because they all have that round body shape. The coloring and markings help identify the breed though.
It's a cute learn to draw book for kids and I'd recommend it,

Thank you Netgalley, Olive Yong and Quarto Publishing Group – Rock Point for this ARC

Interesting how to draw book, with many dog breeds in different positions, although not as easy to follow as I thought it would.
I’m sure drawers will enjoy it.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for my copy of Kawaii Doggies Learn to Draw over 100 Adorable Pups in All their Glory by Olive Yong in exchange for an honest review. It publishes April 4, 2023.
This is such a great drawing book! I have a few artists of my own, and this is right up their alley! I would totally buy this for them. It is very doable and broken down in easy to understand directions!

Suck at drawing? If you’ve always wanted to know how to draw cute (“kawaii”) dogs, this book has got your back. It teaches you what you need to know line for line and contains 35 (not 75!) different dog breeds. Although the book is on the shorter side, it shows a lot of different styles, poses, and facial expressions. Some of the dogs dressed up as food were a bit odd in my opinion (like the “Hot Dog Dog”), but maybe people find that cute?

A great resource for absolute beginners or children.

This is a cute book if you like the kawaii style and want to draw dogs in it. Some of the breeds really look like the real breeds and some look nothing like them other than coloring, since this style really makes every animal look like a cute ball. Some of the dogs actually looked like cats, but some of them were surprisingly close to the real. You learn how to draw various breeds as dogs and puppies, though they honestly look the same to me. You also get examples of poses, moods, dogs in costumes and a few dogs as food items.

Each dog is shown in multiple steps to draw. They are pretty easy to copy. You should be pretty successful if this is a style and subject you’d like to learn.

I read a temporary digital copy of this book via NetGalley.

This is a good introduction to drawing with a focus on Kawaii dogs, although I will say that some of the dogs looked a lot like cats to me; and the puppies were pretty much the same as the dogs. That being said, the instructions are clear and well structured. I would say that this is for a novice drawer so a little bit more than someone who is just starting to draw or learning (i.e. not for young kids). It's easy to understand and there is a lot of content to choose from. I did kind of wish that some of the options for things like the poses and facial expressions were done for multiple breeds so you could get an idea as to how to adapt the breed to the pose. You do get multiple views of the same breed which is handy but ... As it stood, I wasn't always sure how to make that transition. Not impossible but still an addition that would have been appreciated or even a single example with explanations as to how to adapt it for the other breeds.

I really thought the Papillon and the Bull Terrier were super cute.
