Will a reverse courtship scares the man who makes her heart beat faster …

What a pleasure it is to plunge into a Mimi Matthews novel, even more, when this story is about the children from two of my favorite reads by her.
I discovered her talent with words when I first read The Work of Art, so what is better for a reader than to witness the children of beloved couples finding their own happily ever after too?

Here we have Grumpy meets Sunshine with Charles a much-reserved fellow, a man of few words, and Katherine, all in exuberance, a very voluble lady.
And while Charles acts much more in restraint, they both share a love for animals and adventures.
Grumpy meets Sunshine

What a quirky meet-cute they have, one that determines in some way their future, as Kate sees through the invisible hints she caught that Charles is the man for her.
She is so enthralled by the soldier who went to such an extent for a mere stray dog, she sets her heart and cap on the naval officer who is more than his quietness and frowns.
Charles shows greater restraint, focusing on the whys and wherefores before deciding to listen to his heart.

«Nothing worth having is easy,” she said. “Indeed, the strongest bonds in life are forged by fire.»

How wonderful it is to go back to Somerset to visit again old friends and make new ones, as the outlines of future romances are drawn all the while the first one unfolds in front of us between the reckless resolute lady and her brooding would-be beau if he lets her have her way.
A sweet lively swoon-worthy addition to this series.

Cute story, Clean read, revisits some of the characters from the previous books. The previous books detail the parents stories. Our heroine is quite feisty and knows what/who she wants. Our hero is a bit jaded having become disillussioned with active service and order following in the Navy. Katherine first meets Charles when a stray dog hares round Bond St causing mayhem and biting her finger. Charles takes the dog home for his shy sister. Katherine orchestrates her brother to help her visit Charles's home. Charles finds out his mother's old estate is up for sale and the seller is the man harrassing Kate to marry him. It's true to the times but I've dropped half a star as I'd have liked a bit more passion. :)
We meet the hero/heroine of the next book and I'm keen to read their story.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A beautifully written Victorian romance. Enjoyable in every way from characters, plot development and great dialogue. Charles and Kate make a great couple in every way. There's also a mystery to be solved but most of all a love for all time to gain.

This was a fun little shorty. I always like Mimi Matthews for her realism but also her sense of fun and adventure. She’s out to entertain you but not without providing historical background that makes her work feel authentic. Love the heroine in this one because she was such a pistol. A really interesting gender reversal that still felt appropriate for the time.

I AM IN LOVE!! I adored the first two books in this series and having them combined is like the Hannah Montana lyrics “YOU GET THE BEEEEST OF BOTH WORLDS!” And you truly do

one of my new favorite books for sure. I read it in less than twenty-four hours and I knew from the start it was either going to be four or five stars. my expectations were definitely high and it's all because it's about Arthur and Philly's son aka my favorite couple aka my biological parents... anyway, I loved the relationship between kate and Charles so much. I loved how she pursued him despite him pushing her away. that's it. that's all I have to say.

This was such a fun read. Some of my favorite characters from the past are in this book and I loved seeing where they ended up.

It was so enjoyable to read a book that showed loving family relationships. There were disagreements and hurts, but in the end, family and love were most important.

Kate was a great character. I loved seeing her go after what she wanted. She is adventurous and strong willed. Charles is a good balance to her and equally determined. I wanted more time with Kate and Charles together. I felt like their relationship was a little rushed but I enjoyed every moment I got of them.

If you have read the first two books in this series, I highly recommend picking this one up.

Mimi Matthews is one of my favourite author even though I discovered her only recently through the Belles of London series. This book, Return to Satterthwaite Court is the first book that I picked up from her Somerset Stories series. This book is the third one in the Somerset Stories series. I loved this book and had so much fun reading it that I had already bought the other two books in this series which I would read while waiting for the fourth book to come out.

The way Kate and Charles met was really cute. The relationship between them actually mirrored that of Kate's parents. One being the colder one, while the other one was as hot as fire. It's a grumpy-sunshine trope in a Victorian era setting, The plot was good, and the story was well paced too. The side characters were generally likeable. There was also a mystery to be solved too!

The romance was sweet, clean and proper. Of course, still swoon worthy!

"I don't take on a challenge idly. When I set my mind to something, I see it through the end." (Kate was Charles' so called challenge - but he knew that "she was made to be his".)

I wish this book was longer, I would love to see more of Kate and Charles.

Expected publication: 11 April 2023

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC copy. All opinions are my own.

The Work of Art and Gentleman Jim are masterpieces in their own right with couples and stories that are unforgettable and enthralling. Not to mention so utterly, beautifully ROMANTIC.
Charles's and Kate's story is a bit lower-stakes than either of their parents' but no less action packed.

This book flips the usual trope of boy-pursues-girl, and to charming effect. Kate, headstrong, is determined to get closer to Charles, who is a bit lost in life now that he has given up his naval commission. He pretty much goes with the flow -
- until he doesn't.

What I loved -
-Mimi Matthews has clearly understood our love for competence in MMCs!
-The subverting of the "He agrees that (something) is beautiful but he's actually looking at her" so that it is Kate who looks at Charles was swoon-worthy!
-The callbacks to the previous two books were hilarious and reminded me of how much I love this little b00k - world! The characters' disgust of restorative jellies and the seemingly decades long problem with Uncle George's drainage system had me chuckling.

Return to Satterthwaite Court is a riveting read, I hadn't intended to read the entire book in one sitting but that's what I ended up doing! (And to hell with productivity!)
I screamed with delight when I saw I'd received an ARC...and I'm so happy and proud to be able to tell you that the book lives up to that excited shriek.

My heartfelt thanks to the author, the publishers and NetGalley for the ARC!

Now that we know there are to be 2 more stories with the Beresford's...well I can hardly wait, and I'm so ready to revisit Somerset!

If at all possible, you’ll want to read Mimi Matthews’ books The Work of Art and Gentleman Jim before you read this book, since the main characters in Return to Satterthwaite Court are the children of the two couples who get together in those two books. I’d re-read The Work of Art recently enough, but wished I’d re-read Gentleman Jim too. Knowing the background of the parents of Charles and Kate helps a lot in understanding the issues and some of the characters that are important parts of the new book.

I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Charles and Kate, and meeting their siblings too (who will likely provide more sequels!). Matthews does a great job with unexpected plot twists and surprising connections between characters. I had a hard time putting the book down. I got quite a few chuckles out of the sibling relationships.

RETURN TO SATTERTHWAITE COURT by Mimi Matthews
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Publication date: April 11, 2023

Another fantastic romance from Mimi Matthews. You’ll want to devour it in one sitting.

Charles chases a stray puppy to save it when he meets Kate by chance. The stray bites Kate’s finger and Charles speaks biting words. Despite their “meet rude”, Lady Katherine is intrigued by Charles. She decides to pursue him, even though he’s not entirely sure he wants to get caught.

The plot starts in a dash and doesn’t slow down. There is a swoony romance and delightful twists. You don’t have to have read the previous books in the series to enjoy this charming romance. If you have, you’ll love seeing your favorite heroes and heroines as the parents!

I loved this!

Whilst this wasn't my favourite Mimi Matthews book, it was fabulous to revisit some old favourites in this one. I enjoyed the main characters and, although I did find myself working out the "mystery" quite early on, it was a very good read.

Ms. Matthews has a way of writing that really draws you in and her characters are always flawlessly written. Looking forward to the next one.

I love that the heroine takes charge! She simply bowled him over, and it was a joy to read. As with all Mimi Matthews books, I read this one so quickly. Give yourself a good window of time, and the pages will simply fly by.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.

The first book I ever read by Mimi Matthews was The Work of Art so hearing that those character's son was getting his own story made me really happy. Matthews creates such wonderful characters and I love escaping into her books.

Return to Satterthwaite Court was everything I was hoping it would be. We got a grumpy hero with a heart of gold and a spirited, fun heroine that turns his world upside down. I loved these two opposites. They made such a lovely match & watching them fall in love was super delightful. I also loved their meet-cute! Dogs for the win!

As an animal lover I loved seeing all the animals here. Plus it was cool to see the two characters also being animal lovers. I think it added some heart and fun to the story.

This is part of a series, and while I think reading at least one of the two previous books will make this one more enjoyable, it can be read as a standalone.

This is a closed door romance as well but I think the kissing scenes were cute! The romance was still swoonworthy!

Overall if you're looking for a historical romance with wonderful characters and swoonworthy romance, look no further than Mimi Matthews latest release.

Return to Satterthwaite Court is not only an entertaining, romantic story in its own right, but it also merges the characters from two of Mimi Matthews’ beloved novels, The Work of Art and Gentleman Jim. I adored both of those books, and I’m happy to say that Charles’ and Kate’s love story is one that will captivate readers too. I’m so excited for Ivo’s story, releasing in June 2023, and I’m crossing my fingers that the other Beresford and Heywood children will get their own stories too. Definitely add this book to your TBR! 4/5 stars
