Description
Most teens dream of visiting the City of Lights, but it feels more like a nightmare for Sophie Brooks. She and her brother are sent to Paris to spend the summer with their father, who left home a year ago without any explanation. As if his sudden abandonment weren't betrayal enough, he's about to remarry, and they're expected to play nice with his soon-to-be wife and stepdaughter. The stepdaughter, Camille, agrees to show them around the city, but she makes it clear that she will do everything in her power to make Sophie miserable.
Sophie could deal with all the pain and humiliation if only she could practice piano. Her dream is to become a pianist, and she was supposed to spend the summer preparing for a scholarship competition. Even though her father moved to Paris to pursue his own dream, he clearly doesn't support hers. His promise to provide her with a piano goes unfulfilled.
Still, no one is immune to Paris's charm. After a few encounters with a gorgeous French boy, Sophie finds herself warming to the city, particularly when she discovers that he can help her practice piano. There's just one hitch—he's a friend of Camille's, and Camille hates Sophie. While the summer Sophie dreaded promises to become best summer of her life, one person could ruin it all.

I loved this so much. The backdrop of Paris is the perfect element for a romance novel. Sophie was a wonderful character to see grow and evolve into someone more mature and empathetic than she was at the beginning of the book. Witnessing her and Mathieu's love story was one I'll never forget, I could feel every emotion they were feeling right beside them. The wicked stepsister character, Camile, brought some parts to the book that were hard to read but in the end showed great character growth as well. This author did such a great job capturing the essence of Paris and creating wonderful side-characters that made this story live up to it's true potential. When can I book my flight to Paris?!

This is much more than a Young Adult genre, it starts out with two American siblings having to attend their fathers wedding in Paris. and unfortunately for Sophie she has to share a room with her new stepsister Camille who makes it her mission to bully Sophie and use her ability of being bi-lingual to her advantage something that Sophie is unable to do. the story develops with Sophie's love of the piano and the need to practice, as usual with Denise's books I find myself reading faster and faster to gather all the information and then left feeling with a book hangover, there are only a few words to accurately describe this....Simply Beautiful!

I have read everything that Denise Grover Swank has written. I tend to like more of the non-romance type of books but not with Denise. I really like the way she writes her characters and her romance. She doesn't come on too hot and heavy with them. There is a gradual, natural feeling to the relationships. You never feel as though there is an insta-love between the characters. Sometimes you aren't even sure if there is going to be a happily ever after.
I enjoyed this book a lot and I really want to go to Paris even more now. Even though I have never been, I thought that the descriptions of Paris and the area were so well done that I felt like I was there. I also felt like Denise did a great job writing from a teenager's point of view. She got the drama and such down really well, and I'm sure having teenagers helped with that part. ;)
I read this in one day because I was so engrossed in the story. I wanted to keep reading so I could find out what was going to happen. Like I said previously, you aren't always sure you are going to get a HEA with Denise so you've just got to keep reading until you find out! I highly recommend this story for anyone who was a teenager once and had that one love that was worth everything.
