This book is number 14 in the DI Geraldine Steel series from Leigh Russell, but the first read by me. That wasn't a problem, the author included enough information for me to dive in without making me feel like I was missing anything, while I still got a sense that all the characters involved had full real lives that encompassed more than the pages of this specific book.
Jessica Colman has a missing baby and a missing husband, but there's no clear sense immediately as to whether the two are linked. Enter Geraldine Steel and her commitment to finding out the truth.
Jessica is a complicated, not always sympathetic character, with difficult parents and emotions all over the place. But that means this isn't a predictable read. I wasn't 100% sure where it was going and enjoyed the journey.
I think I'll be back for more!
