Jane Bishop once had hopes of a loving match, but the man she had her sights on ended up engaged to her cousin before being lost at sea and declared dead. Fast forward two years, and Lieutenant Eli Williams is back from the dead and being cagey about where he's been. The only thing Eli knows for sure is that he wants to mend his friendship with Jane with hopes of more, but all Jane wants is to gain her independence and be done with the marriage mart. As Eli shows that he's willing to support Jane fully, she finds that she can't deny her feelings any longer. But is Jane able to let go of the past or will that past keep them apart?
It's a wonderful romance where the male lead is so well written and fleshed out that his story ends up being even more interesting than the leading lady's. Jane has a lot going for her, with her story and all the issues she had with her cousin, making me root for her even more because no one should have to put up with the way she's treated. But the adventure Eli went through and the way he did his best to be honorable in a bad situation made me love him. They're a well-balanced pair whose storyis fun, romantic, and full of great moments. I enjoyed the fact that, despite knowing they were going to end up together, Delacour still made me question how that was going to be possible.
Delighted thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the wonderful romance read!
