It's fun and interesting, just trying a little too hard to be both. You can tell when something is brought up or a new character appears to move the story or add to the world, versus the times when it seemed like a fun idea, and gets shoehorned in. It doesn't ruin the story, it just doesn't feel authentic to Cassie's growth. And it's her growth that makes this a worthwhile read.
We first meet Cassandra Camberwell as a teenager, experiencing a nightmarish prank that not only humiliates her, but also proves that Seth Brubaker, the boy she thought of as her best friend, has betrayed her to be with the cool kids. Now, she's all grown up, more confident in herself, and ready to sell her grandmother's house fast if it means getting out of that little town without seeing any of the ghosts from her past. Except the first thing she discovers is that her grandmother was apparently BFFs with Seth and that he needs her to brew him a potion to help with his furry issues. It turns out that Cassie is a witch, and there is a whole lot more to the world than she could have ever imagined.
It's a fun adventure full of discovery and healing, not to mention some very steamy moments in which Seth proves he's ready to worship Cassie's full-figured perfection. There are some missteps in plot and timing, but the overall is worth the read.
