Mishetsumephtai is a hunter enslaved to a demon queen from hell. He's had a taste of freedom and it's changed him, giving him the opportunity to meet a lovely human female who draws him in and makes him feel things he never thought possible. Lily Donovan has worked hard to forget that she's a witch and all that world entails. But when a handsome man covered in tattoos with beguiling amber eyes drops into her life, she feels drawn to him and ready to face anything if it means keeping him safe and next to her.

I had issues with how low Lily's self-esteem is, but there are reasons for it and her getting over it is a big part of the plot. Mist also has moments of doubt, so they end up being a good match in that. They don't believe in themselves, but have every faith that the other is perfect and capable. It makes for an interesting dynamic that allows Lily to be the action hero even though she doesn't seem to have much power. It also makes them adorably sweet as a couple.

I loved seeing all the characters from the first book and how they're still working hard to make their little found family work. Their interactions and how easily they welcomed Mist and Lily into their group are a big part of why I'm enjoying this series. They all have their shadows, but they're not letting that dim their enjoyment of life.

One tiny complaint is that the bigger mysteries are multiplying instead of getting resolved, but that's mainly on me not wanting to have to wait for the next books to know what's what.

It's fun, action-packed, and way more romantic than a story that includes a trip to hell has any right to be. A solid continuation to a stellar first volume that gives me hope for what might come next.

Very happy thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for the fun romance read!
