Her twin brother Henry is the only family Athalia Pressley has left, but years of petty fights and miscommunication have created too much distance between them. She's starting to believe fixing this might be impossible when she's forced to take on the arrogant, impossibly hot Dylan McCarthy as her tutor, and her brother's attention is suddenly all on her. Dylan is Henry's sworn enemy despite being his teammate on the soccer team, so fake dating him gives Athalia an excuse to be closer to Henry. They draw up a fake dating agreement complete with a rule about not catching feelings, but when the tutoring sessions and fake dates start feeling too real, Athalia will have to choose between fixing things with her twin and the boy who makes everything feel special.
It's emotional in just the right way. Athalia has big feelings and she's willing to feel them if it means fixing things in her life. That's what makes her fight to reestablish a relationship with her twin, and what makes her open to teaming up with Dylan when she sees it could be a way to get closer to Henry. That it turns into more when she starts seeing Dylan as something other than just the pesky tutor who she can use is a twist she wasn't expecting, but that she's open to exploring. It all boils down to her feeling open enough to explore her feelings, which is one of my favorite leading lady traits.
My one pernickety complaint is that Dylan doesn't get explored as deeply, and I would have loved to read more from his POV than just the little bit we get towards the end. Other than that, it's a solid romance that's as fun as it is emotional.
Very happy thanks to NetGalley and LYX for the romantic read!
