⏩ Read if you love:

a good murder mystery party. The set up of the story puts the characters on a remote mountain to participate in a game of whodunit. Little do they know by playing, they are likely to become a part of a mystery all their own.

the closed room trope. However, know that the mystery doesn't happen in a closed room, but rather a closed village. Conveniently stuck in the village because of the wintry weather, the characters are first players in a game but quickly morph into suspects in their own mystery.

a book where you can play the game along with the characters. Much like Janice Hallett's books, Martin Edwards asks his readers to play along with the characters. If you love a good cipher, riddle, or puzzle, this book will keep you guessing.

🎭 Mood & Vibes:

MWitLwaK drops you in the snowy scene, trapped in a mountain resort with 12 characters. Six of them are there to play a game, with the other six being residents and employees. The author builds the mystery from the beginning with game instructions telling them to trust no one. It's easy to feel trapped in the snow with them as the narration moves from character to character, leaving you feeling like you know less and less as time moves forward.

🏅 Best Character Award Goes To:

Out of all of Edwards' characters, two vie for the top spot after my reading.

Poppy de Lisle To keep this review spoiler free, I can't fully explain why Poppy made the top of the list. Suffice it to say, the twist at the end gives Poppy space to shine. Her development from her introduction early in the novel, her interactions with Harry, and her final unveiling deliver an unforgettable and all around fun character to read.

Frankie Rowland Like Poppy, there's a bit about Frankie that is best left for the reader to uncover. As chauffeur and all around "handy gal", Frankie delights the reader with her quick talking interactions. She is the first person the players of the game meet and she sets the tone for their journey into the game.

💡Biggest Surprise:

The twist I didn't see coming! Without giving away too much, there is a game to be played. It is solved. But, the game isn't the actual story. When the player themselves start ending up dead, it becomes a chase to find out what is happening. In the end, what comes out will have the reader asking if there were clues they might have missed from before.

🎯 Final Take:

An enjoyable read with an unexpected twist at the end and a game to be played along with the characters.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 – Unputdownable

📚 Stack Placement: Definitely recommending to others.
