Kaoru Mitsuya is an ex-yakuza who just got out of jail and discovered that his group didn't keep their promise to take care of him. Homeless, hungry, and walking the streets hurt after getting beaten up, he runs across a beautiful stranger lying in a bed of roses in the middle of an alley. Yuichiro Shirouzu is the owner of a nighttime flower shop in need of some help. He offers Mitsuya a job and a place to stay with him, setting him on a path of discovery of how he wants to spend his life and who he'd like to do it with
It's cute, but it's also somewhat empty fluff. Much fuss is made by Mitsuya about him being a former yakuza, but he might as well be any discontent kid and the story would stay the same. I'm not saying I want it to be more violent or anything. I like the character's gentleness and how soft every interaction is. It just feels like it's softness with nothing much to keep it going.
That said, Mitsuya's crush is adorable and Yuichiro is a character who kept surprising me, so it does have some good points. It could be a case of the first volume set up not allowing room for story development; I just wasn't hooked enough to find out.
Happy thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the sweet read.
