There were certain parts of the book I found valuable. The discussion of research funding was excellent as was the comparison with pop culture labs. I also liked some of the discussion of real-world labs, such as those related to mitigating climate change. But I also found that there was too much about the author’s journey and too much about non-STEM labs. I also found the tone of writing not to my taste; it felt more like I was being lectured to than having a conversation. Thank you to NetGalley and Bloomsbury Academic for the advance reader copy.
