A psychological suspense that completely messed with my head!

I went into this book having not read the blurb, so I had absolutely no idea what I was about to discover. When I saw the chapters alternating between Grace and Geny, I assumed I was going to get two sides of the same story. I certainly wasn't expecting to find one of the sisters drowning on page one!

I was immediately confused - and I mean that in the best possible way. By the time I got properly into the story, I felt as though I was spinning, trying to work out what was actually happening, or at least what I thought was happening. And just when I thought I had a handle on things, another question appeared.

The story moves between Grace and Geny's perspectives, gradually revealing what happened eighteen years ago and what has happened in the years since. Grace has been missing for eighteen years, while Geny has built a life without her. When Grace suddenly returns unexpectedly, everything Geny has built is turned upside down.

I found myself trying to understand all three of the central characters as the story unfolded. I could understand why Grace felt she had no choice but to make the decisions she did, and I could also understand why her sudden return turned Geny's carefully built life upside down. Their relationship is complicated by grief, insecurity, jealousy and a whole lot of secrets, while Wyatt is caught somewhere in the middle with secrets of his own. I wasn't always sure how I felt about any of them, and there were certainly moments when their choices frustrated me, but that made them feel all the more real. I could understand their motivations even when I didn't necessarily agree with their actions.

At the centre of everything is the mystery surrounding Grace's disappearance and the recent death of her father. Grace has returned because she doesn't believe her father took his own life, and she is determined to clear his name. What follows takes the story in directions I really wasn't expecting.

And the twists! There were so many moments when I thought I had worked something out, only for another piece of information to completely change my thinking. I loved that sense of uncertainty. Even when I thought I was beginning to understand what had happened, there were still more layers waiting to be uncovered. I also loved how the alternating perspectives gradually changed my understanding of the characters and their relationships, with things that seemed straightforward at first becoming much more complicated as the story unfolded.

This isn't a book where I can tell you too much about the twists without taking away the experience of discovering them for yourself - and I definitely don't want to do that. What I can say is that there were several revelations that genuinely shocked me, and the further I got into the story, the more I needed to know how everything was going to come together.

My Twin Sister completely messed with my head in the best possible way. I went into it knowing nothing, spent much of the early story trying to catch up with what I thought was happening, and ended up thoroughly invested in finding out the truth.

A gripping psychological suspense with complicated characters, plenty of secrets and twists that kept me guessing, this was a book I thoroughly enjoyed and I'm very glad I said yes to the tour without reading the blurb first!
