I enjoyed this book. The stories about these historical inventions were fascinating and I liked the highly conversational tone. I actually found the writing to be clever and there was quite a bit of wordplay and humour. The book basically frames the inventions into the four classical elements of earth, wind, fire, and water. The inventions are presented in snippets which seem to have no connection to each other aside from the classical elements which gave me the sense that the book is disjointed, but when I focused on the writing instead of the organization, the book was a lot of fun to read.
