Matty Gowen-Smith is a recent uni grad who's a talented painter working as a nervous bartender to pay rent in London. After dropping an entire tray of cocktails on Florian de Ligt and accidentally getting them trapped in an elevator for hours, an uneasy truce develops that will have Matty desperately fighting to figure out if he wants to follow his heart or his head.

It's the full romance fantasy of a good person working hard and still struggling who meets a wonderfully handsome rich man with an instant connection that slowly leads to more after the mandatory misunderstandings. The overall plot isn't very original, but the writing is fantastic and the heart is all there.
I spent the book wanting to hug Matty and tell him that it's all going to be all right. Struggling right after graduation and feeling like those around you are already doing while you're still planning is a universal feeling. Matty's situation also has him in a place where he can't paint, and not being able to pursue his passion has a serious impact on him. He spends a big part of the book denying his true feelings about so many things, so when it boils over, it's equally sad and heartening because it means that he can finally take steps to get help. And then there's Florian. The man has his own issues; equally as hard as Matty's, even if he does have tons of money to throw at them. Yet despite a poor first impression, it's obvious that Florian is all heart and ready to give Matty the world. They're adorable together, from their first "fake" relationship moments to the heartfelt confessions that prove a HEA can be possible if you work on yourself first.
Extra kudos to Stone for working serious mental health issues into the plot without making it all about them and showing that life can still be possible and joyful even when your brain doesn't always want to cooperate.
