Description

My life plan had to be altered due to my medical condition.
I thought I'd marry my preschool sweetheart. I dreamed we'd have a boy and a girl, a golden retriever, and a white picket fence.
I knew I wanted kids to be a part of my career from my early childhood. In my mid—teens I decided I'd like to be a child life specialist, providing play therapy to children in the hospital.
When doctors diagnosed with Friedreich's Ataxia (a disorder that affects my balance and fine motor skills), my future plans took a turn into unchartered water.
Life for me became more about living every moment to the fullest. My mind ran a mile a minute. Writing about my experiences, utilized my degree in psychology. I am ever hopeful my story would resonate in the hearts of people of all abilities.
I dipped my toes in my creative juices, letting my emotions explode onto my computer screen. I wrote as a form of therapy, but soon realized I had the opportunity to reach more than a few family members and some close friends.
Life tomorrow was never a promise, so ride the rollercoaster!

I received this book through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. First off I wasn't really looking for this book. I was participating in a book challenge for a book club that consisted of autobiographies, biographies and memoir style books. I had already picked a couple for the month so I was good then one day early in the month while browsing on NetGalley I came across "Suck It Up Sunshine" and the title just grabbed my attention. After reading a little about the book I thought it would make a great addition to that challenge. See being the Mom of a child (adult child now) with a disability I knew this book would grab my heart. And of course it did. I laughed and cried with Megan thru her telling of the trials of her life living with Friedreich's Ataxia. I could relate, from the parent's point of view, to many of the hurts. My heart would ache for her as it did my own son seeing how a child with a disease or disability gets left out or can't participate in many of life's activities. But then I was also overcome with joy for her as she found strength and pushed on with life and didn't let it stop her from doing the things in life she wanted to do.

Thank you to NetGalley, Sands Press and especially Megan for this opportunity.
