Description
Warning: This book contains
adult content and is best for mature audiences.
In Gully Dirt, Coram
reflects on his own life as the son of a tough, unforgiving Army veteran and a
loving but meek mother, and growing up in a town rife with racial and sexual prejudice.
How does a boy who has no encouragement, no mentor and no role model find his
way out of the most desperate of situations?
Coram holds nothing back as he shares about the land and time that shaped him during the 1950’s and the last age of innocence. No part of his life is too personal or too embarrassing to share including his first tender kiss with a “good” girl, public beatings by his father, discovering the names of local KKK members, raising a hog for a school project, killing his father at the age of 16 and the saving grace of words - especially those penned by acclaimed African American author Frank Yerby and Ralph McGill, former publisher of the Atlanta Constitution.
Perhaps the most surprising element in the book is his sense of humor! Despite unbelievable hardship, Coram leaves his readers wanting to hear one more story and cheering him on as the classic underdog!

Advance Praise
In this coming-of-age memoir, Coram spins a web of tales, all of which he assures us are the gospel truth. They may well be — Southern towns have provided the grist for many a literary mill. – Chet Richards (CounterPunch, Jan. 17, 2017)
Five Stars By Paula Thornquist It is fabulous! I couldn't put it down and it had me laughing out loud. Gully Dirt is sensitive, heartwarming and honest beyond an adolescent's worst nightmare. I cant believe it won't be a best seller and a movie.
