These are not the mermaids you know.

When an unnatural riptide sweeps lifeguard Tristan Hart out to sea for three days and then dumps him back on the shore of Coney Island, it’s the start of the Sea Court claiming its own. Tristan can feel everything has changed, but he isn’t sure what exactly. He finds himself dreaming of a terrible and beautiful creature—a silver mermaid with a face like an angel and the teeth of a shark. Suddenly, his constant girlfriend dramas and swimming championship seem like distant worries as he discovers the truth about himself and his family.

His mother was a mermaid who gave up her fins and crown to be with a human. Now the mermaids have returned to Coney Island in search of their new king. Tristan is a prince of the Sea Court. With the arrival of the merfolk, comes an evil sea witch, boy-hungry princesses, and killer creatures from the depths, which turn New York’s supernatural underbelly into a playground for things that go bump in the (ocean at) night.

The crown of the Sea Court can’t be given — it can only be won. In this modern Arthurian tale with a twist, Tristan has to fight for his life, the lives of his friends, and his humanity (if he still wants it), as he’s caught in a race for a throne that is as ancient as the gods. This is a deadly quest where what Tristan doesn’t know will hurt him. Seductive and duplicitous, these sirens of the deep have an agenda of their own.
