Advance Praise

Margaret Dulaney has created a new literary form, the spoken essay.  At first it is the beauty of her voice that captivates you, so that you cannot flick the dial -- and then as you are drawn deeper into her compelling stories, you realize with a shiver that she is speaking of things for which we have no words, things that you yourself have felt perhaps and pushed away, so fragile seems the goodness of its intent.  With exquisite sensitivity, she plays at the margins of reality, hinting at moods, meanings, hidden patterns that can only be suggested in poetry, and which are the only things worth living for. I wish everyone had a chance to be breath-held, heart-stopped by these stories.
