Description

In 2031, the Statue of Liberty lifts her lamp beside the Exit door. When Doyle Beckett and pregnant wife Geneva Rose are both forced out of their jobs, he has no choice but to accept work on a cruise ship full of passengers who aren’t coming back. He has no idea he will be leaving his wife and unborn child at the mercy of a renegade militia. And he has no clue how to deal with the dilemma of passenger Belinda, a renegade of a different sort—but just as dangerous.

Advance Praise

“An ambitious tale about a mysterious cruise . . . Hoffman adroitly paints a bleak picture of a country shattered by internal discord; something akin to a civil war tears the nation apart in the year 2029. The author doesn’t provide many specific details about the nature of the political tumult’s causes, but that only heightens the atmospheric ominousness. Hoffman’s narrative ingenuity is impressive . . .” — Kirkus Reviews

AUTHOR BIO:

George Richard (Dick) Hoffman was born in Oklahoma and grew up (or at least older) in Texas except for a couple of years in California, which hardly slowed him down at all. He attended Texas A&M before it became a university. Before it had a creative writing program. Before it discovered women. After A&M, the Army sent him to fight the Battle of New Jersey. When he won that, they sent him to West Germany. Some say that's the main reason the Russians stayed on their side of the Iron Curtain. Others say that's BS.
In any case, after he returned to the Dallas area he fought with one hand in the Real Estate Appraisal Wars for 39 years and 10 months, not that he was counting. With the other hand, he wrote unpublished poems, stage plays, screenplays, short stories and novels. He’s now writing with both hands. That is, between honey-do's and walking the two mutts, who must remain nameless because they're in the Witness Protection Program.
