Raphael is a very important Renaissance painter. He was the son of a painter, and learned how to paint when he was very young. As he grew up in the art world of Italy, he became inspired by artists like Leonardo Da Vinci [duh-VIN-chi] and Michelangelo [mick-uhl ANJ-eh-low]. Raphael was a major Renaissance artist because of his beautiful Madonna portraits.
