On with the review...

As a hockey fan, I was excited to come across a book that highlights the young talent in the league. Some familiar suspects are included like Auston Matthews, Connor McDavid, Patrick Laine, and more. The really nice surprise is seeing the likes of David Pastrnak, Mark Scheifele, and Connor Hellebuyck included. There were a few omissions that surprised me, but on the whole, this was a really fun book. Each player's chapter includes a bit about where they came from, an anecdote that will help young readers connect to the players, and ends with a quick bio a la the back of a hockey card. The writing is definitely geared toward the middle grade set, but even adults who want to know more will enjoy reading about Hockey's New Wave. There are pictures of the players included, so even if someone isn't a household name yet, they may soon be recognizable. Fun book for the whole family to learn more about the NHL's up and coming talents.
