Description
Through the brightness of that incandescent center in its veil of light came the god who ruled this strange world. The Shining One flew along the length of the steady beams from the black panel. The sound of crystalline bells, of pizzicato tinklings from violins with strings of glass, grew louder, more insistent; jubilant, and joyous. In what seemed only a minute it crossed the lake. Yolara raised her white arms in a clear sign of love and welcome. The Shining One descended from its bridge of light to the water's edge and flowed inward, onto the platform beside its lovely priestess. In 2052 John and Tereza Allan escape the bonds of their strained marriage by living alternate lives on Weary, the World-Wide Entertainment & Active Resource Utility. When immersed in a created world, with full sight and sound, the experience can almost equal real-life. They find fulfillment in virtual lives filled with great romance and high adventure. And because a popular world can make its creators rich, every type is available, including all the sexual experiences imaginable… and some not. But a highly knowledgeable killer murders a distant relative, and the Allans and local police find themselves in a desperate search to identify him before he strikes again. And this compels John to travel on the hidden, dark side of Weary, where horrors wait…

Advance Praise
As our own virtual technology expands, this is a cautionary tale of where we could be as a society. A Murder in the RealWorld explores a kind of digital dystopia, where VR technology provides an endless variety of sexual encounters and epic adventures in a world-wide VR connective service called Weary, creating fictional lives that few are willing to put aside to resume the mundane activities of work, family and friends. But it's also a world where a criminal has chosen to take his murderous impulses from the virtual world into reality, luring a VR user to seek to solve the murder on his own -- and putting himself and his family in the crosshairs of a psychopath. Of particular note is the author's re-introduction of a sci-fi classic, The Moon Pool, as a VR adventure for those in the know. An interesting exploration of sci-fi themes and moral dilemmas by an author who grew up in the genre and worked in the space industry it inspired. Amazon Customer
