Israeli French born author / teacher Arye Dreyfus has extended his career for long years as an envoy to Africa and Europe. He describes unique people as dissimilar as people can be without condoning or condemning but with an evident empathy.
At first stories revolving around such at odd characters do not belong together but in this curiosity piquing book they do as they all share an essential characteristic, they never give their dreams up. Each of his cases delves with a peculiar issue, together they are a bunch of human beings unflinchingly chasing their dreams in a bitter struggle against the misery and the complexity of life. They do not belong to the high society or to the wretched and poor, just ordinary people trying to come to terms with the resistance their struggle inevitably raise. Their twisted trails take us among others from Berlin to the jungles of Africa, from an empty airport in New- York to a Nazi celebration in Paris during the Second World War and to an evening under shelling in Haifa.
Love, all kinds of love, is characteristically a main component especially love in situations of alienation and distress. Faith and nationalities aren’t relevant but the Jewish background of the author is never in doubt.
