Description

Five Immigrant Women Linked by Blood Display the Challenges of Life With a Healthy Dose of Hope, Joy and Happiness in New Historical Fiction Book

The Blue Tatar by L.N. Gruer is a riveting and revealing novel written from a historical prospective that captures the hopes, dreams and aspirations of five different immigrant women. Although, there are blood line links and similar historical backgrounds, each fictional woman has their own unique personality and outlook on life and where they want their dreams to take them.

For example, there is Sasha who has a sweet spirit and always wishes to be about pleasing and meeting the needs of others. Added to the mix is that she has a son who has an alternate lifestyle and has to come to grips with her gay son and balancing a relationship with her father who is homophobic.

Another one of the women in the novel is Flora. Flora has been blessed in America by reaping the wealth and privilege that sometimes is associated with being an American. However, as with anyone else, she struggles with her own unique challenges with one being aging.

Maya is another distinctive personality that is highlighted in this book. Maya has an eating disorder and has been dubbed with the nickname of "Fat Maya". However, don't be fooled as she is a player in the dark underworld and takes on the role of being a woman "Godfather."

Bella is the medical professional. Her successful dentistry practice is impressive and yet the pursuit of her dream is to walk away and pursue her passion for horses and writing.

Additionally, there is Oksana who has her own set of personality traits and struggles with addictions. Under the thumb of an over bearing husband, she has succumbed to being a shopaholic with a craving to always seek the approval of the family. She hopes that her dream of becoming a designer for women's shoes is in her future.

In this past meets future where traditions of the old country collide with American values, this book is a stand out as five separate women, along with their past and current relationships, struggle and sometimes succeed to make a life in America.

This written journey takes these women through common everyday challenges. Some of those challenges include the managing of business, trying to understand children who are assimilating to American values and thinking in contrast to how they themselves were reared, indulging in destructive lifestyles to cope with life, managing the death of loved ones and working on imperfect marriages and family situations.

This novel is a blending of the stories of strong women who, in each of their own ways, deal with common everyday challenges such as the care of parents who are growing older.

It's almost as if these women are a bridge between two worlds and trying to be facilitate that crossover and yet fulfill their own dreams and aspirations.

The Blue Tatar by L.N. Gruer is a beautifully written and sensitive book that fully puts on display the horrors and challenges of life but with a healthy dose of hope, joy and happiness.

Advance Praise

"The Blue Tatar by LN Gruer is a wonderfully written and richly descriptive debut novel with brilliantly drawn characters and settings. The author weaves a well-crafted, witty, and captivating historical fiction about five modern immigrant women.... I enjoyed the story, character development, and dialogue. There were plenty of plot twists that I didn’t see coming and that added to the book’s mystique. It’s a first-class multi-generational saga with perfect pacing. It’s one of those books that comes along occasionally that will make you want to read it non-stop until you get to the end. For those looking for an interesting, three-dimensional, and stimulating read, this would be a great find. I’m giving nothing further away here. And this, I hope, will only add to the mystery and enjoyment for the reader. I’ll be looking forward to reading more from this author in the future. Highly recommended, and a well-deserved five stars from me." --Piaras (Vine Voice)

"The Blue Tatar by L.N. Gruer is a beautifully written and sensitive book that fully puts on display the horrors and challenges of life but with a healthy dose of hope, joy and happiness.  It is a well-written book that captures the personalities and mindsets of each of the well-developed characters and weaves together a narrative that is both intriguing and a true reflection of life that the reader can associate with." -- Brian A.

"For lovers of history and politics, and interest in American lifestyle emerging from Russian and Jewish roots, you get a picture of the socio-political and economic situation in Russia coming from the nineteen thirties to the present.  There are also tinges of persons who are Soviet-born and raised with atheist prejudice against all religion. This story tells of five modern immigrant women whose destinies, joint through blood and history and who emigrated over twenty years ago now. Flora, Oksana, Sasha, Dr Bella, and Maya. Depicting differences in culture, education, social status and convictions, the shift from poverty to the US, to the high life chasing of the American dream." -- Scarlett J

"The Blue Tatar by LN Gruer is the story of several different immigrant women who have come to the United States for a variety of reasons with a variety of different obstacles and experiences ahead of them.... The story moved at a steady pace and had moments when things were very tense and other moments when things were very funny, so the emotions were nicely balanced. Fans of cultural stories and stories with women protagonists will enjoy what this has to offer." --Phil B.
