Description

Take a thrill ride into the day after tomorrow through a Europe fractured by seismic change.

An American journalist in Moscow uncovers a startling twist in American-Russian relations. A health-care administrator fights to keep medical services afloat amid a crumbling NHS in post-Brexit England. A Ukrainian soldier struggles to reconcile his pre- and post-war identities.

This collection of short stories and beautifully rendered maps takes readers where academics and think tank philosophers dare not tread. Written by journalists and experts from regions of geopolitical unrest who have witnessed great upheaval and threats both foreign and domestic, these fictionalized accounts depict the all-too-real failings of ideology and idealism in a Eurozone dystopia that has already arrived.

This collection features works by Conrad Zielan, Constantine Bouchagiar, Preston Smith, Peter Galuszka, David J. Doesser, Daria Sapenko, Graham Thomas, Fergal Parkinson, Nick Eaden, and Peter Heather.

Stories include:

• Belgium: “The Paper Trap” • Ukraine: “Frontier Sans Medicine”

• Germany: “Shifting Syrian Sands” • Cyprus: “Beaches and Banks”

• The Baltics: “The Promised Land” • Ireland: “Ode to a River”

• Estonia: “When Moscow Comes Calling” • Scotland: “Prose and Politics”

• Hungry: “The Director” • England: “Medical Care Sans Money”

ERIC C. ANDERSON was a former US Intelligence officer and author of several thrillers including the recent “New Caliphate” trilogy – Osiris, Anubis, and the cyberthriller Byte.

A dark trip through the corners of Europe. Let me count the ways in which businessman/women can disappoint themselves and others. Each story presents a unique perspective on the ways that a country and its culture can influence and allow terrible things to happen.

The writing is top-notch. While each author does have their own style, their styles complement each other so perfectly in this collection. The lengths are appropriate and allow the story to unfold at its own pace nicely. The characters are unforgettable and all too real.

This is not an easy anthology to enjoy but it is most definitely an anthology worth reading.

I received an ARC via Netgalley.
