Richard A. Moore gives us his personal story through the Vietnam war from a perspective that we don’t usually see. “An Officer’s Journey” (January 1, 2021, independently published) is Moore’s experience as a coming of age engineer during a two-year tour of duty, one at Fort Belvoir, Virginia and one in Vietnam. 

But this isn’t a typical Vietnam war story that rehashes the political and combat aspects of a war. This story describes the particular experiences that Moore had with his unit, and how the military impacted their lives. A young lieutenant at the time, Moore’s memoir goes through the experiences of the Corps of Engineers and their mission in America and Vietnam. It was not to kill people, but to build infrastructure.

Packed with unique military missions as well as a personal account of how the war changed these men in countless ways, “An Officer’s Journey” is for anyone looking for an honest, personal story that just so happens to go through the Vietnam war. These men grew up while they were at war, but not the typical side of war you hear about.
