Anna Ellington was born in the Wellington County House of Industry and Refuge, known as the “Poor House” near Fergus, Ontario, Canada. Later she was bound out to a wealthy family in Toronto. In 1904, Anna returns to Fergus as a beautiful young woman in search of her family. She hopes to learn why her mother ended up in the County Poor House.
