Description

Two lovers. Two Continents. Two Cultures. One unforgettable love story.

Maita, a Zimbabwean graduate student, has returned to London on summer break with one goal: to reunite with Ade, her Nigerian ex-boyfriend. She made a terrible mistake when she broke up with Ade—and now she wants him back. On the flight to London, she meets Chris, a British gentleman who is instantly captivated by Maita and pursues her relentlessly.

When Ade rejects Maita’s efforts to rekindle their romance, she turns to Chris. As a couple, Maita and Chris are forced to confront racism, the complexities of an interracial relationship, and their insecurities.

But Maita has never forgotten Ade…nor has he ever gotten over her. Then, in a sudden turn of events, a determined Ade resurfaces and attempts to reconnect with Maita. But Chris is doubly prepared to keep her at any cost, unleashing a dangerous chain of events that will forever alter the course of all three lives.

How far will each man go to win her love?

Turning Tables explores the challenges and triumphs of multicultural and multiracial relationships—a poignant and engaging story of the power of love, missed opportunities, second chances, and the pitfalls of obsession.

Gripping! Relatable and Fantastic story!

Turning Tables explores issues and challenges relating to multicultural and interracial relationships. A seemingly love triangle between our black heroine (Maita) and 2 guys Chris (white man) and Ade (black man). You won’t know how it’s gonna go and who you’re routing for until an unpredictable twist happened in the book. Told from a multiple POV and dual timeline you get to know more as the story unfolds, what the characters were thinking in real time. I found the book to be relatable especially to the African diasporans as they navigate work, visa process, cultural changes and relationship expectations etc.

"Wow!!! What a brilliant first book! I just couldn’t put it down. Such a great plot with unexpected twists. Alice writes so well and gets the reader connected to her characters. As a reader I was rooting for the characters all the way!

I finished Turning Tables within twenty-four hours because I had to know what was going to happen to Maita. I love the way that Alice Takawira created a story that contained so many twists and turns that caused enough drama to frustrate me at times. This story read like a Lifetime movie. One that you know is going to be crazy good by the end of the first chapter.

This will be a great recommendation for any book club as it can generate lots of discussions. Be warned, when you pick it up it will be hard to put down! Enjoy Maita’s rollercoaster journey."
