Description

Fanny Campbell is a fiery 18-year-old farm girl in pre-Revolutionary War Rhode Island. Her parents taught her to sail, hunt, fish, ride, fight with broadswords, and be an independent thinker. Those qualities make everyone in her small village sure she will be an old maid, but Fanny doesn’t care in the least. Against all odds, a wild storm blows Will, a young naval officer, into her life. He is immediately attracted by her fierce independence and strength. After a spirited courtship involving footraces, sword fights, and pranks, they marry, and too soon, Will’s ship puts back out to sea. As they travel south hunting pirates, he and his crew are captured by the Spanish and imprisoned in Cuba,

Determined to find and rescue her beloved Will, Fanny disguises herself as a man, signs on to a broken-down merchant ship, and goes to sea. When attacked by an elegant black pirate ship, the Bloody Rose, Fanny, along with her shipmates, is captured. When given the chance to join the pirate crew, she signs on, still disguised as a man. In the back of her mind, she is secretly planning Will’s rescue, and thus begins Fanny’s epic adventure as An Accidental Pirate.

Advance Praise

"Brooks Almy‘s An Accidental Pirate held me captive from its first page to its last. It’s the kind of story I always sought as a young reader but could never seem to find, one where the main damsel is never in distress but doles out plenty to those who get in her way, It's a sweet, fast, funny, romantic adventure that will leave a lot of readers as eager as I am to see what Brooks Almy does next."

-Joe Keenan: Emmy award winning screenwriter, television

producer and novelist

“I want to BE Fanny Campbell when I grow up! She is smart, clever, sassy, loyal, adventurous…and when she is focused on a goal she doesn’t take ‘No’ for an answer! Couldn’t put it down! Can’t wait for Book Two.”

-Alyson Reed: Tony nominated actress known for playing the drama teacher, Ms. Darbus, in Disney’s High School Musical franchise and Cassie in Sir Richard Attenborough’s film of A Chorus Line opposite Michael Douglas

“An Accidental Pirate” takes me back to my childhood in the best possible way. The character of Fanny is everything a roguish fantastical character needs to be – smart, clever, sassy and takes no guff…and she’s a kick ass woman to boot! A true page turner because I wanted to see what happened next!
