Big House Dreams is a southern family saga that spans four generations beginning with pious, judgmental Emma Jenkins who dictates the way life should be lived by spouting old adages and Bible verses. Her daughter, Sara Mae, abandons tiny town, Cam’s Corner, and raises her daughter, Sheila, as a single mom. Pulled into the lives of Sheila’s four fast friends, the girls bumble into adult life with a hearty balance of snipping and support. Through it all, with the men who come in and out of their lives, they experience shock, betrayal, love, acceptance, and resolve. In the end Sara Mae reflects it has not been an easy road, but the bumps and crooks eventually lead her to a catharsis and to a clearer understanding of life.

This book jumped out from the shelf and said, "Choose Me, It'll Be Worth It!" So True! It was engaging from the beginning and held my interest through every chapter. The setting was unique, the plot was intriguing and I never knew what would happen next! My favorite part, though, was the characters. There were some unusual people, creepy/weird people and very lovable people. I can easily picture them all and would enjoy casting them for a movie! I was really sorry it ended; which is always a good indication of how much I enjoyed it. Buy it, book club people and there will be lively discussions and everyone will benefit! Trust Me!!

Big House Dreams fits that definition perfectly, as it introduces the reader to the lives of three generations of Jenkins women: their dreams, their mistakes and triumphs, and most of all their ability to adapt to change with love for friends and family intact pervade this touching Southern saga. Recommended for women, friends of women and all sensitive readers whose families include women.
