I have read one of the other books in this series but didn't remember many of the details. This book referred to people and events from previous books and while those would have been nice to know it didn't take anything away from this story if you hadn't already read the others.
I thought this book had a wonderful theme of forgiveness and finding strength in loving others. Leah is hurt from years of lies and neglect and is able to find solace in her family and new friend. She such a great well drawn character who was being pulled emotionally in all different directions. Steven could empathize with her and also with the brother that also is suffering. While the themes may sound dreary it felt like a very hopeful book and left me with a great feeling.
