An interesting  read of a boy first hand experience of trying to grow up, a bit of a tear jerker this one but also of immense pleasure, I expect everyone who reads this will see a resemblance of themselves in his life and on his journey to adulthood.

Jackie: The adventures of a little boy trying to grow up by John Tammela is a beautiful must read.  The book cover should not even be taken in.  The cover does nothing to go with the story inside.  This is a young boy's memoir, John Tammela, of his life growing up between 1930's through the 1940's,  He has a loving family but he gets into all sorts of adventures.We read about operations to bread cars and everything in between.  He shares all of this with clarity and humor. There is no drama or suspense at all in this story.  The only thing you'll read is about a little boy and his life growing up in the 1930's through the 1940's.  This is a fun and adventurous read.  It's a very simple story of a little boy.  This book would make a great gift and would make a great addition to anyone's bookshelf. I gave it 5 stars but wish I could have given it more.  I highly recommend it to everyone.  I just loved it.  It is one that you will re-read and re-read again.  I look for more from John Tammela.

This is a very heartfelt read about the author, John Tammela, growing up in Canada during the 1930s and 1940s. This book should appeal to both adults and teenagers. It was fun to read how kids grew up in the thirties and forties and what they did to entertain themselves. As a child of the seventies and eighties myself, I compared his experiences to my own and there was a huge difference.

I enjoyed this book more than any book I've read in quite a while. I'm giving it five stars, but would assign it more if I could. Do yourself a favor and read this book!
