This book had wonderful illustrations, and the beginning of the story seemed to be going in a very sweet direction. However, I had serious technical issues in trying to read this book--I couldn't get it to fit the screen, and when I did, the text was too small to read comfortably. I will seek out this book at my library and read it in the flesh! |

My little daughter Lexie loved this book. She didn't care that in the book Lexi is a boy she loved the novelty. We rescued a dog who had been abandoned and this story showed my children just how much a kind family can change the life of an abandoned pup. The downside? they now want to enter our dog into a dog contest . |

Given To Me For An Honest Review Lexi Goes on Vacation to the Outer Banks by Janice Wills KingsBury is a must read for everyone. This book is not just about Lexi it's about dogs who have been adopted or who are waiting to be. Mr. Janice & Mr. Rob has vacationed in Duch, North Carolina for the last 10 years. This year it may be different. This year they have a new family member. The have adopted a dog, her name is Lexi. Lexi soon adjusts to her new enviroment, so the vacation is planned as usual. Ms. Janice, Mr. Rob, Lexi and the other members of the dog family will be going on their trip to North Carolina. This vacation will be like none other. This is one the family will never forget. What adventures will Lexi find herself in? There is action and adventure. The colors are vivid and bright. They make the book come alive. This book will help your child learn new vocabulary. I gave this book 5 stars but wish I could give it more. It would make a good gift for anyone. It would look great on your child's bookshelf as well as on a library bookshelf. I highly recommend this book to everyone, especially if you have an interest in animal adoption. I hope to read more from Janice Wills Kingsbury. |

When my son and I first looking at the cover we expected the book to be about a dog's adventure to the beach or something along those lines. Actually the story is a lot more personal. The story is not just about Lexi for start. It is about a family. This books is actually about many themes that usually arise after adopting a pet from a shelter. The story starts off as Lexi is placed into a shelter and a family adopting him. Lexi eventually adjusts to his new environment and soon the family goes on a vacation to the beach with Lexi along with the families other adopted dogs. I feel families who are considering adopting a dog should read this story to children because it covers many issues among adopted animals as well due to their past experiences and abuse. The artwork in general is rather cartoonish but is fine for a children's book. At times while reading this book it seemed as if there were words missing and I had to go back and re-read sections. Being as this book seems to be geared for children there did not seem to be a lot of pictures that would grab a child's attention. At times my five year old son seemed to lose focus on the story when he normally would be into a book about animals. More illustrations should would have been nice since this is a children's book and kids tend to have low attention spans. Overall though it was a good book. |

Lexi goes on vacation is a cute and warm hearted story with cheerful illustrations. A story which makes young readers aware, that there are lots of dogs waiting in shelters for a new home and they all still have a lot of love and happiness to offer. A complete highlight are the photos of the real Lexi and all his friends at the end of the book. The story is quite long, with a lot of text, which will make it difficult for early readers to read the book by themselves, but it worked wonderfully as bedtime stories with my son. |

Review by Eowyn Arendt for Word Vagabond If you like dogs, I recommend this book. I like that it got a little scary in the middle and then everything was okay. The dogs are very well drawn! Lexi’s expressions told me what he was feeling, and he looked very nice and cuddly. The parents looked a lot younger than they sounded in the writing, though. There could maybe be more dog stuff in the car or on top when they’re driving to their vacation. I love how the illustrator added shadows to the pictures! I like that there are real photos in the back of the book to show that it was a real story. I also like that they show how the family of dogs has grown! (The Chihuahua is my favorite.) This was a really good book and I would love to read more about Lexi’s adventures or about the other dogs. |

I received a free kindle copy of Lexi Goes on Vacation to the Outer Banks by Janice Wills Kingsbury, published by Outer Banks, from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. Written for ages six to twelve but enjoyable for all ages. I enjoyed it & gave it five stars. The seaside vacation home for Mr. Rob & Ms. Janice is a family tradition. This is the first year that the new addition to the family, Lexi is going along. He loves running on the beach & playing with children. Lexi is a herder & does his job thoroughly when more than two people are standing together. His goal is to push them closer to each other so they're easier to manage. "Lexi & his family had an adventure they will never forget. The sun had set & the evening dusk gave way to a pink & blue sky, set as a backdrop to the white & silver glistening waves. The white sand sparkled as if studded with small slivers of diamonds. The family loved the beach this time of day & longed for a few more minutes to enjoy its cool breezes & the soft sounds of the waves rushing to shore. 'It's almost as if the beach whispers,' thought Ms. Janice." This book was a pleasure to read & I highly recommend it.
